The debate over whether we should have more, or less, socialism in US government is largely a debate over the purpose of government. Socialists "believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically". That might sound relatively innocuous. But it's a radical claim, one we should consider seriously before indulging a more socialistic government.

The libertarian roots of the United States contradict this belief. In the US, neither society, nor the economy, is run democratically. Each is run collaboratively, voluntarily, by the individuals who make up society. Government merely serves as a "referee". Socialists want government to be the "coach".

Why did the referee give farmers 32 billion dollars last year?

Duh.
Because they're a bunch of super hardworking good people and you'd go hungry without their great work.

Let me do some digging, but I'd bet I could find a BUNCH worse ways the gubbment spent MORE money than that to causes that won't benefit Americans at all.

Besides, that does NOT make us a Socialist state. when the Referee takes over the farms, THEN we're Socialist.

I wish it were that simple. Sadly, if there is not a strong public consensus backing it, the Constitution is - truly - just a piece of paper.

The Constitution has been a dead letter since at least Woodrow Wilson...Time to quit pretending that it has any magical powers to keep politicians and bureaucrats in their lanes.

the biggest obstacle is the dem and repube party and those that vote for them and then complain that things are going to shit,,,

Folks, please keep in mind the DEFINITION of Socialism......

Socialism is where.....
Government OWNS or SOLELY CONTROLS the means of production.

It has ZERO to do with government expenditures or social programs. (for God's sake)

Democracy can be a very oppressive form of government when the majority finds out they can use the power of government to steal from the minority.

It is morally wrong to give the majority the governmental power to steal what I have earned.

Are you really still confused by this?
Government is supposed to invest the people’s money back into the shit that matters, the shit the people agree with investing in....NOBODY contributing agrees with paying ShaQuita and Guadalupe to increase the size of their litters but everybody contributing agrees with investing in our food sources...Sucks huh?

He's pointing out that the "referee" has assumed the role of coach (or even general manager/owner), and is greatly exceeding its authority.

Real libertarians and ancaps don't need this nuance spelled out.

My cute little anarchist that worships the head of the government...this is an opinion forum, when you ask someone a question such as mine you are asking for their opinion.

Now that you have been schooled you may get back to kissing Trump’s ass

The fight (at least the political one) is over, the statists won....I suggest stocking up on non-perishable foodstuffs and ammunition.

‘America is at that awkward stage; it's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.’
