Did you read the whole thing?

Stewart stressed that the plan does not set lower standards for students in demographic subgroups, and instead puts accelerated goals on the students with lower achievement percentages to meet 100 percent proficiency over ten years.

Not in Florida...

New education standards approved this week in Florida set goals for public school student performance based on race and ethnicity — with lower benchmarks for African-American, Native American, and Hispanic students, and higher ones for white and Asian-American students.

Florida sets education standards based on race, ethnicity | The Daily Caller

So the progressive dream of equality is...bullshit?

Imagine that the average conservative could eat 25 hot dogs in one hour, and the average liberal could eat 15 hots dogs an hour.

Then imagine you set a goal that everyone should be able to eat 30 hot dogs an hour within five years.

That means after one year, you would expect the average conservative to be able to increase their hot dog eating pace from 25 to 26 an hour, but you would expect liberals to increase their hot dog eating pace from 15 to 18 and hour.

It would be ridiculous to expect both conservatives and liberals to be eating 26 dogs an hour after the first year. But notice how conservatives only have to increase by 1 while liberals have to increase by 3.

Understand?

Now go back and re-read the article and see if Florida's benchmarks make more sense.

They have to lower the standards for people that can't.

It's always CAN'T with a certain group of human beings. Always a hand out from Haiti to the Congo. Time to wake up.

They are not lowering the standards. Improve your reading comprehension before you start criticizing the abilities of others.

Horse Hockey. There is ZERO reason, in your silly example, that liberals should not be able to eat the same number of hotdogs. The goal should not be to make everyone be able to eat the same amount of hotdogs. The goal should be to get each individual to do the best they can. This Florida thing is progressive bullshit. Instead of making sure everyone has an equal chance, they try to make everyone equal. Bad idea.

I did read that pathetic attempt at a spin. Surprised you can't see it for what it is.

Bottom line, government is supposed to ensure we all have an equal chance, not that everyone ends up equal. NOTHING in Florida's new guidelines is about equal opportunity.

What does "lower benchmarks" mean to you exactly?

I'm just stating fact. How about you go find a new brain.:eusa_boohoo:

Apparently some people think "benchmarks" is synonymous with "standards".

Stop making shit up. You lose credibility.

From the article:

All children should be held to high standards and for them to say that for African-Americans the goal is below other students is unacceptable,” Patrick Franklin, president and CEO of the Urban League of Palm Beach County, told the Sun-Sentinel.'

It is precisely about equal opportunity. It cannot be helped you do not understand what you read, and base your opinion on an article written by someone with the same problem. And now you are just parroting a great phrase you heard from daveman.

This is highly ironic.

The article does link to the Florida's plan. Did you read it?

Didn't think so.

NO! I think most of us are wondering how you achieve HIGH standards, by lowering "benchmarks"

This is how I know you did not read Florida's plan.

From the plan:

The mission of Florida’s K-20 education system is to increase the proficiency of all students within one seamless, efficient system, by allowing them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills through learning opportunities and research valued by students, parents, and communities.

Asians are starting out at a higher place than whites. Therefore, it would be incredibly stupid to set identical benchmarks for Asians and whites as they work toward the goal.

The GOAL for Asians and whites is IDENTICAL.

The irony in this topic is getting more and more humorous.

Don't matter how how you cut it, by requiring more from Asians and Whites, they'll be the ones who get the superiour education. Would you agree that black doctors and lawyers should have lower benchmarks than do whites and asians?

By doing just what the article says. Accelerated goals as well as lower benchmarks. Requiring that struggling demographics hit these benchmarks more rapidly and move on to the next in order to decrease the gap.

Was the article in Spanish or something? Because I do dabble..

I think I"ll stick to Asian and White doctors. They have to have higher benchmarks.
