'Smart Diplomacy'

We are running out of time here, (and I do not blame Obama because Bush could have dealt with this, but Obama has to move and move quickly), we either determine if these sites can be destroyed by air power and strike or we live with a nuclear arms race between Sunni and Shia states in the world's most asinine region.

That is our choice.

Agree about Bush. Like Obama, two wars certainly prevent going after a bigger problem on a third front. What is different and it started before his election was presenting the US as 'just as exceptional as everyone else.' He believes that, so do our enemies now. And yes, we do have enemies. Someday they might not be, but they are today.

Air strikes at these sites plus taking out naval facilities to prevent Persian Gulf retalition is not an invasion or occupation.

Still the Iranians would flare up their Shia proxies in southern Iraq, Lebenon and perhaps even Bahrain, but that could be contained.

Can a nuclear arms race in the Middle East be contained?

The Sunni states will not allow Iran to be an nuclear power without a simular response.

We've been backing exactly the WRONG Islamics, folks.

ARe we or are we not a natio which believes in respresntatioal democracies?

We are, right?

Okay, what do the government look like in Saudi Arabia?

Is that a representational form of goverment, or is it a 12th century style Monarchy?

Wake up, folks.

Everything most of you thik you know about American foreign policy is in diametric opposition to everything you claim to believe about governments.

Our allies in the Mideast HATE democracies.

There's something supremely fucked up with our current events, and thinking the US President(s) have a say in whatever's going on is  .

It also makes me  when I look at a map, and see where Iran is in relation to Iraq and Afghanistan. How are the world's elite going to HIDE THAT!?~?!@?!

The government of Saudi Arabia is not currently trying to get a nuclear weapon, (they will if Iran does), nor do they threaten the existence of Israel, as Iran openly does, nor do they openly sponsor large proxy armies throughout the region that destablise the democracies that do exist there, Lebenon and Iraq, Iran does.

Are the Suadis great guys? No.

Some times you have to deal with people you ideologically do not paticularly care for to deal with much greater threats, this is called reality.

If we could deal with Stalin to take out Hitler we certainly can deal with the Saudis.

What we don't want is a Saudi government desperately trying to get a nuclear weapon to balance Shia Iran.

Save a lot of time and money. GIVE Iran a nuclear warhead with an ICBM and launcher nicely gift wrapped. Notify all arab states and Israel of the delivery. They'll give it back so fast it will make your head swim.

It is time to make Iran put up or shut up! Its time to make them keep their promises to us and the rest of the world or make them pay the consequences. We have been kind for to long to a country that smiles in are face then conspires to rid the world of America. I think if Iran continues to act like a school child being ignored when we do finally have to give them are attention we should give them the spanking they have been asking for. Are foreign policies are becomes impotent due to the fact that countries like Iran continue to make a fool out of us. There was a time when the rest of the world may not have liked us but if they choose to work with us they at least respected the treat of conflict with us. Now it seems that are foreign policies are not upheld by are allies nor feared by are enemies. Lets draw a line the sand at least on issues that effect are safety.

you think it's appropriate to be so cavalier with people's lives?

i'm figuring you never risked your own if you do.

and assuming you're right that iran should be dealt with, (spanking a sovereign nation is pretty disrespectful and the kind of thing that led us where we are in the first place)... how should it be dealt with

it's easy to talk big on a messageboard.
