Do conservatives really believe in smaller government or is it all bullshit? Government grew under Reagan, Bush 1 and now Bush 2. Hell even I was surprised at Reagan but sure as hell social spending rose as well as military spending and new beaureacracy was created.

Our government is one fat fuck!

What more proof does one need that the 2 party system is BS?

Conservatives believe in defense spending...when a conservative gets in office though he can't just cut out all the ridiculous socialist programs elst the liberals whine him out of office so the result ends up being massive spending....if we could fund the CIA with the welfare money...i'd do it.

I think conservatives are for small government in the areas the government isnt proscribed to go into. the Social programs is not what the government was designed for. Defense, law enforcement, regulating commerce, building infrastructure is. when we talk about big government we are talking about the social programs.

conservatives also love a bloated defense budget, one thats grossly over funded and extremely wasteful.
BS....the lesson of 9-11 is that when liberals cut intelligence and defense spending we are unable to prevent catastrophic attacks and then must run defecits to make our military capable and maintain their stupid "give me YOUR money for THAT guy" programs...

my direct and personal experience in the marine corps has shown my what waste comes from a bloated defense budget. The entire military program could cut 40 to 50 billion from it and as long as there were tight constraints on spending the money where its actually needed instead of spending it so its not lost in next years budget would not hamper the military at all.

but I would still spend the welfare cash on bizombs and bizullets

same here, instead of spending it on retrimming and repainting the baseboards of a dozen barracks that are due to be demolished in 3 months.

How about using our Shiznit of a defense system (including missiles) which guards our Pentagaon at all times within a double digit mile radius to prevent ANYONE from flying into its airspace without PREDETERMINED FLIGHT PATTERNS transmitted for approval?

Spending ain't any good if you ain't usin' da goods.

AMEN AND AMEN...though I know more than a few liberals who see this as the same blueprint for a fascist state in the making as you see i.d. cards.

Well, you just don't read the same documents from the same 3 letter organizations that I do is all.

The point is that wether you want to acknowledge it or not, you are not even aware that wool is pulled over your eyes by both parties, much less able to identify said wool.

I find it HILARIOUS that you assume to know so much about me based upon a single argument...an argument that means NOTHING to me and I was participating in, chiefly, because I enjoy pissing off people with unjustifiably large egos....YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ME!!!

Yes DK, let's cut that tax-sucker down. So many of the defense projects are spent on things that can not help us much in the war on terror. We already are the only real air military power in the world and yet we keep spending more and more money on jets we don't need. The only thing we need to spend more on in the military is more money on the individual soldier. Higher pay, better vet benefits, more education, body armor, intelligence training, etc. It seems ridiculous to continually finance giant Daisycutter bombs and the like when our enemy hides in downtown apartments and small caves.

I think that if the right and left could first agree that we are at war and need to defend ourselves, half the battle would be won. I fear the lefts' denial that we are at war prompts the right to counter with excessive military spending. If we could agree that we are at war then maybe we could dicuss how it can be fought efficiently and effectively. This could also reduce defense spending. Congressmen, I feel, see federal money as a big grab bag. Take home to your state as much as you can--it's the feds money, (ie PORK).
Shift resposinbilty for most social programs to the states who have a better idea how to spend it and voters would have an easier time seeing how the money is spent and could therefore make educated voting easier.

Our government is one fat fuck!

(CNSNews.com) – The federal government spent a record $3,355,970,000,000 in the first nine months of fiscal 2019 (October through June), according to the Monthly Treasury Statement released today.

Prior to this fiscal year, the most the federal government had ever spent in the October-through-June period was in fiscal 2018, when the Treasury doled out $3,199,795,700,000 in constant June 2019 dollars. Before last year, the most the federal government had ever spent in the first nine months of the fiscal year was in fiscal 2009, when it spent $3,176,577,910,000. And that was Obama trying to get us out of the Bush Great Recession. What's Trump's excuse?

The framers has set up a federal government dividing powers between the states and the general government. One reason senators were chosen by the state legislatures was to give the states a say in Congress. Instead of fixing the problem they just allowed both houses to be elected by the people. The general government grew because there was no mechanism is place to prevent it from happening. It started during the Wilson administration and has not stopped.
