We already do. The same sniper rifles and door-breaching shotguns can be purchased in most any decent gun store. There's nothing exclusively "military" about those.

Most people don't realize that the Miller case made the determination that military weapons are protected under the Second Amendment. Thank you for pointing that out.

However, the Supreme Court made a big mistake in that decision. They ruled that Miller was guilty of violating the NFA laws because his short barrel shotgun was not used by the military. In fact the military did use short barrel shotguns in WWI. The Supremes got that wrong. They didn't do their homework.

Miller didn't even show up to the hearing to defend himself but the court had the trial anyway.

There was no defense. Just a prosecution presentation and a court ruling.

If the court ruled that Miller was guilty because he didn't have a weapon in use by the military then they should have made sure that he didn't have a weapon used by the military. They didn't do that.
