Shocked UN Security Council Sharply Condemns ISIL Killing Of Japanese Civilian

UNITED NATIONS (New York), Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) lashed out at the reported beheading of Japanese citizen, Haruna Yukawa, by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) - the UN uses the moniker ISIL in lieu of the widely known Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) - an atrocity that has stunned the international community.

The 15-member UNSC, which also includes Malaysia as a non-permanent member since the start of this year, issued a strong condemnation in a statement Sunday of the "heinous and cowardly act" while calling for the immediate release of another Japanese citizen, Kenji Goto, who is still held by the Islamist extremists.
