Sen. Joe Manchin on whether he would change his mind on ending the filibuster: 'NEVER! Jesus Christ, what don't you understand about 'never'?'

so you're saying there's a chance?

I have no problem with filibuster as origially envisioned, where one person could hold the floor and espouse their view to anybody and everybody, non-stop whether anybody continued to want to hear it or not, until people were willing to compromise or the speaker gave up. What they have now is just a fake filibuster to automatically require 60 votes, which is anti-democratic rule to even consider legislation. Mitch got rid of it for Supreme Court nominees. If it is just a game, screw it. Unless willing to revert to original filibuster, I would be willing to see them chunk the whole filibuster thing and let representative democracy play out without it.

"Joe Biden may live in the White House, but conservative senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is effectively president.

Manchin is wielding enormous power in US politics right now. But he can be defeated — if Democrats vote down the must-pass COVID-19 bill until it includes an increase in the minimum wage.

Some have argued that the way to fix this situation is by ending the filibuster, but that’s a catch-22: it is absolutely a necessary reform, but President Manchin is pledging to veto it. Even if Democrats were to eliminate the filibuster, they would still need Manchin’s stamp of approval for virtually all legislation, given the Senate’s current 50-50 split."

We will get them to end the filibuster on Jan 2023!

We will get them to end the filibuster on Jan 2023!

How ya going to do that without control of the Senate?

Sen Manchin is a power broker willing to play both sides of the aisle to his advantage. He wins no matter what he does...

No you won't. The mid terms will put the Reps in control of congress.

The filibuster, which the Dems made possible, will be around for a while.

Its preposterous that legislation can get through the House with a simple majority. Utter nonsense.

Joe deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, we haven't seen someone stand up against such a brutal, authoritarian, power grab in quite some time.....especially his own Party, it takes a special kind of courage to do that..

The filibuster has been around long before there was a Dem Party. It actually goes back to Rome.

Looks like Joe Manchin has got a personal stake in the minimum wage remaining low.
