I thought your map wasn't correct. I moved to Minny 19 yeas ago and have always considered it to to be heavily Scandinavian. And Minnesota does have the nation's highest concentrations of Norwegians and Swedes. But is predominantly German. 38 percent of Minnesotans are German.
Who would ever of thunk that?

It is based of self-identification but not really that surprising. The midwest and mid atlantic had a fair number of German farmers. The entire end of my city I live in used to a be a German dude's wheat very massive farm.
