Seattle NPR Station Says It Will No Longer Carry Donald Trump’s Coronavirus Briefings Live Because Of Misinformation

Irrelevant here. KUOW is not "government funded".

VOA is though. Radio/TV Marti is. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is. And they have gihugic transmitters here in North Cackalackee, which I toured recently, so there is literally a place for government funded media. It's quite the sprawling complex, with yuge buildings and acres of antennas.

You'll be happy to know they are sleeping the half-gigawatt xmtrs because they just cost too damn much to run. That's at least SOME of your tax dollars "saved" eh?

Back in the 1918 pandemic, the one commonly but erroneously called the "Spanish" Flu, and the one that killed Rump's grandfather, this country did indeed have a Ministry of Information, euphemistically called the Committee for Public Information, which did indeed publish newsletters like this

file-20170421-12629-pzcyrw-wr.jpg

and crank out an endless stream of lying propaganda news releases to flood newspapers, the medium of the time, and more importantly to censor, in tandem with the Sedition Act of 1918, news of the pandemic's existence, thus living thousands upon thousands to die, unprotected.

THAT is what government media looks like. And we should note, what government censorship looks like as well.

But that's in no way related here. KUOW is licensed to the University of Washington and supported by its listeners with augmented corporate underwriting. It isn't run by the government. So go sell shit somewhere else, I know better and I'll say so.

Shame Henry. You either don't know about all this and are purporting to, in which case you're a fraud, or you do know about all this and are deliberately lying about it, in which case you're a fraud.

Absolutely NO government funding from any level. No federal money. No state money. No county money. No city, town or village money. No money from state operated institutions of "education" or indoctrination. Only voluntary contributions from actual humans. No union money. NO corporate money.

Of course that would dash your aspirations of being Propaganda Minister....
No thanks. We need public radio and television.

And we need it more that most "developed" nations that do a FAR better job of it than we do. Deutsche Welle in Germany. NHK in Japan. Even CBC in Canada. It's a common conventional wisdom that the reason so much of the better parts of the public radio we do have comes from Minnesota and Wisconsin and New York, is that those places are close enough to Canada to hear what real public broadcasting can sound like. But the Cult of Ignorance propagandists like Henry here with his inchoate verb-free drooling don't want nunna that thar lurrnin' goin' on. Edumacated public on the public's dime? No no, that thar's danjerus and shit.

It's not a joke that Republicans have been trying to rid of public media. They are the joke. And so misinformed.

Many broadcast call letters were devoid of any meaning when they were obtained.

For example, KDKA (Pennsylvania) is generally considered to be the first commercial radio station. Call arbitrarily assigned by government. WJAR (now changed) - also assigned. WSAR - same thing.

Only later did stations get to choose. WALE - originally chosen to suggest "Whale" - a New England city that was not directly connected to whaling but was close to several that were. WLKW - the original use of the call - was meant to mean (L) 50 (K) kilo, meaning thousand (W) Watts. A pitiful signal for a 50-kW station since the six tower array dumped all the power into the North Atlantic.

In Portland (People's Republic of Oregon) KBVM (Blessed Virgin Mary) a non-commercial church run FM.

So now comes KUOW. Means what? U (You) O (only) W (wish)?

Possibly a response to a comment like: "I want to hear real news - not fake crap!)

You only wish!

It means University of Washington, its licensee since 1952. Anybody in the world can look this up.

And common among university licensees --- cf. KUNM (University of New Mexico), WUNC (University of North Carolina), WUOT (University of Tennessee), WHRB (Harvard Radio Broadcasting) etc ad infinitum.

Public stations do not necessarily get public funding.

"Public" means "not commercial". It means not privately owned by some commercial interest looking to make money from commercials. That's why we call them commercials --- because they're commercial. They bring commerce. Isn't reading fun?

Oh, so-called "public" broadcasters which are part of State Universities get big chunks of their money from THE STATE - passed through the liberal apparatus masquerading as a place of education.

State money (taxpayer money) meant to further education.

Used instead to foster indoctrination both in the classroom and on public airwaves.

Your tax dollars at work! Against you.

Hard to believe.

Now the ACTUAL government-funded broadcast business, which we explored back here in post 271, and which budget FAR exceeds that of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, is called the US Agency for Global Media (formerly the Broadcasting Board of Governors), and is mysteriously never mentioned in all those hair-on-fire wacko rants about "waaah, get our taxes out of media". Wonder why.

Could it be because the USAGM is controlled speech and the CPB is not? :eusa_think:

and crank out an endless stream of lying propaganda news releases to flood newspapers, the medium of the time, and more importantly to censor, in tandem with the Sedition Act of 1918, news of the pandemic's existence, thus living thousands upon thousands to die, unprotected.

NPR is a joke
Don't watch it or listen to it. Don't expect you donate to it. Our local radio is completely supported by the listening public. No joke.
PBS including NPR receive federal tax money
Ventura County's public radio station does not receive a dime in federal funding. KCLU FM.
KMA
The station in question on this thread is KUOW 94.9FM in Seattle

any station that is part of PBS gets federal funding either directly or indirectly

public radio and tv is just that - government subsidized

WRONG, dickhead.

First off, PBS is TELEVISION, Shit4brains. NO FM STATION is a part of "PBS"
Holy SHIT you're a dumbass.

Public broadcasting (radio OR TV) does NOT get automatic government subsidy. What makes it 'public' is that it does not get commercial subsidy either.

PROVE ME WRONG, Dickhead.

The KCLU radio station is owned by a privately owned college, Cal Lutheran University. Keep barking.

It's not a joke that Republicans have been trying to rid of public media. They are the joke. And so misinformed.
I am proud to say I have supported cutting off PBS from federal funding for many years

Cult of Ignorance is pretty full of itself, we know.

PBS doesn't have a damn thing to do with this story anyway though.
NPR is half the topic and part of your headline

It is not my headline, Dipweed, and even as such it's an ADJECTIVE. And it's IRRELEVANT here.

NPR made NO CHANGES TO ANYTHING AT ALL. Of course you're too fucking STUPID to figure that out, aren't you.

An NPR station in Seattle said that it no longer will carry live coverage of President Donald Trump’s coronavirus briefings because of concerns that they feature unchecked misleading or false information.

KUOW is monitoring White House briefings for the latest news on the coronavirus — and we will continue to share all news relevant to Washington State with our listeners,” the station tweeted. “However, we will not be airing the briefings live due to a pattern of false or misleading information provided that cannot be fact checked in real time.”

Most recently, Trump has called for lifting of social distancing guidelines in the near future, perhaps by Easter, even though public health professionals are still grappling with the spread of the virus. He also has made false claims about the availability of tests, the timeline for finding a vaccine and the potential benefits of a treatment that includes the ingredient chloroquine. While there is some promising study of its potential use, it has not it has not been approved for treatment. NBC News reported on one Arizona man who died after ingesting chloroquine phosphate, and his wife said that they learned about its use after watching a briefing. The chloroquine they used was part of a product use to clean fish tanks, not for medical purposes.
Once again, whatever Trump says, the idiots on this board parrot, word for word.

Common sense, on the other hand, dictates if the spread of Covid19 increases with exposure to other people, avoid other people.

Seems simple enough, even for trumpers.

Maybe not. trumpers are not too bright.
NPR is a Communist network and should be precluded from getting any of our tax dollars for reporting the 'news.' Fuck them. Don't contribute to them and their fake funding drives either. It's all a sham. Unless you like a particular music program which is what they should broadcast 24/7, They are shamefully deficient in reporting 'news.'

Once AGAIN --- twenty-first time now ---- THIS IS NOT A STORY ABOUT NPR. AT ALL.

Furthermore NPR does not run fund drives. But it does provide the ONLY comprehensive national news service on radio.

Prove me wrong about any of the above.

ONLY IDIOTS make the claim that NPR and PBS are communist networks. It's not that they are using the RED SCARE as propaganda, for what they claim is so stupid no one who ever watched PBS or listened to NPR believes them, it's a comment made by those who have never watched or listened to Public Radio.

The Conservative movement ever since Goldwater ran for POTUS has hated PBS and NPR for one reason alone, it reports facts in rebuttal to fake news, meme's and propaganda, from all sides of the issues.

For those who doubt this, tune in. You will learn many things if you become a regular listener of NPR.
