Undoubtedly we must have some strategic benefit to stay active in these parts to some degree or it's like anything else America does, where as it saves it's resources while paying others to produce a product for less than half the price it cost us to produce it here. Otherwise get that cheap oil, and then sell it here for gazillions. Everything is business in some form or another, and we have been going around the world doing business like this forever now. We even look for cheap labor to come here and undercut our own economy and our own labor out of the love of greed. Mansions didn't stop getting built after the civil war, they actually intensified dramatically over time. Our sovereignty was sold out long ago. You're forgetting about the greed of corporations which want to own way more than what is needed.

Nothing wrong with corporations as long as they are structurally set up in a ladder merit system type of way of doing things, and this on behalf of their employee's etc. Using socialist or communist type systems to operate under, shouldn't be allowed in America at all. This causes most of the revenues to work at the top, while the remaining amounts trickle down to the serfs in a socialist kind of way.
