It's only a matter of time.

Scientists in Germany switch on nuclear fusion experiment

Scientists in Germany have switched on an experiment they hope will advance the quest for nuclear fusion, considered a clean and safe form of nuclear power. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a physicist herself, pushed the button Wednesday to inject a tiny amount of hydrogen into the Wendelstein 7-X device at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald. A massive microwave array then heated up the hydrogen, turning it into a super-hot gas known as plasma similar to that found in the sun. The Greifswald device won't generate energy but instead test a technology that may be used to hold plasma in place in future reactors.

Dear Confounding person: Are you aware of the Fusion Physics Laboratory at Princeton? They have been pissing away billions of U.S. Taxpayer Dollars for decades in the vain attempt to make some progress on nuclear fusion.

Pipe dream.

The 'Wendelstein 7-X Device' ? Sounds like something Dr Evil would come up with. "Bring out the Wendelstein 7-X Device. We will turn the moon into 'Maaagmaa'."

I hope these experiments will produce some fruit soon. The center of the sun is about 25 million degrees, we've attained 600 million degrees in the lab, so fusion is possible. Getting more energy out than you put in is the hurdle. The sun gets to use unlimited free gravity to produce those temps. We have to do it some other way. I think we will get there at some point.

They would have better luck working on an anti-gravity device. So we can all get high.

your a joke...get a life...What you'd do is make America some third rate shit hole as we wouldn't lead the world in shit.

Of course, it doesn't surprise me as you want the wild west back.
