Because it's a non-story. In fact, it isn't even worthy of discussion. I doubt the school board went through and gave the thumbs up or thumbs down to individual books on a reading list.
And if you've ever heard the conversations on a middle school playground or a high school gymnasium, you'll know that anything written in that book comes off as tame in comparison.

It's a wedge issue. For largely white school district parents to get outraged about because..."What about the children?". If you haven't noticed, this is the new alt-right battleground.
The guy was removed (I'm guessing) because he was violating public decency laws.

The point is that you cannot, as a parent, go to the school librarian and demand or request that a book be removed from the shelf. The process is going to the school board, for most school systems for such issues. As a parent, I might’ve contacted the school principal prior to going to the school board meeting, because that might’ve nipped it in the bud. It would depend on the school’s principal and school board relationship. Some school boards are very supportive of the administration, others not.

This particular passage that was read…come on. Yes, highschoolers are watching Netflix and have seen it all, but it doesn’t mean that high school needs to “keep up” with Netflix standards, give me a break. Teaching reading and comprehension skills and make the stories interesting and relevant, but come on really… strapping on dildos, you think is good reading material out of a school library? High school kids who work and have their own money and want that book bad enough they can go buy that book. Parents who want to gift that book to their kid, that’s their choice. Public schools that contain a huge variety of mental capacity in every grade level? No, not appropriate subject material.
