"A nationwide spotlight is on the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake, a suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, after a report that a district leader asked teachers to offer students books with an "opposing perspective" of the Holocaust, according to NBC News. In the audio recording, obtained by NBC News, Peddy reportedly says, "Make sure that if, if, if you have a book on the Holocaust, that you have one that has opposing, that has the other perspective." A teacher is heard responding, "How do you oppose the Holocaust?"
The district is working off of Texas' so-called anti "critical race theory" bill, passed this year, which restricts how current events and America's history of racism can be taught. According to the bill, teachers can't be compelled to discuss current events, and must explore various view points without giving deference to either side."
It seems this admin may have been going a bit too far with her interpretation of this bill....by demanding that both sides of an issue be presented to students....I mean, you should be able to argue the pros and cons of...I can see how you would want kids to see the good sides and bad sides to slavery, Jim Crow, the removal of Native Americans, etc... but we should all know that there isn't a good side to the holocaust.......
Now there is a push among some folks in academia to try to minimize or revise the whole holocaust thing...some even want to claim it didn't happen....but how is this something that should be up for debate in 8th grade World history class?? How would you even try to introduce something like that to kids...."Yea, exterminating Jews in gas chambers is bad..... but...what about the Nazis' feelings??"
