First, let me dispose of the “freedom of the press” non-scandal. To me, that one always sounded like a sales campaign designed to convince the public that the government and the media are not two peas in the same pod. Even if I’m wrong the media is getting kicked by the same boot they’ve been licking for decades. In short: Press barons and journalists are getting exactly what they deserve. Proof: Most of the people in television “news” are still licking.
Parenthetically, if the government really thought the press was adversarial Congress would quickly eliminate the tax deduction for advertising dollars which Congress can do without violating the First Amendment.

Thirty or so years after JFK was killed under mysterious circumstances the public found out about Clinton while he was still in office. The weird thing about heterosexual scandals is that they please two groups; 1) dirty-minded moralists; 2) the macho crowd who take pride in their presidents humping everything in sight even when it includes rape. Sex props like Clinton’s cigars turned out to be added bonus that titillated both sides.
Now, let’s go to the serious stuff.

(When did you ever see the IRS challenge them?)

Naturally, necessity dictates exceptions; thou-shalt-not own a gun, and thou-shalt-not use rough interrogation methods on known-terrorists.
Knowing full well that sins become laws, dirty little moralists seized the opportunity to increase the scope of their expertise by first inventing racism, then transforming it into a crime.
Moralists always end up with all of the money. That is why they are never in short supply. So it is not unusual to see race hustling preachers and leading Democrats getting rich by contributing nothing more to society than their objection to a non-existent sin.

Just like every priesthood there ever was, the Socialist priesthood makes the transition from prohibiting and punishing reprehensible behavior to telling everyone how to conduct their daily lives. Socialists can, and do, get away with abolishing private property, taxing incomes, perverting the law, betraying the country, and violating the Constitution at every turn. For all of the things Socialists in government can do, they cannot govern unless they force people to do as they are told. In short: YOU MUST NOT —— becomes —— YOU MUST.
