Rwanda is to release 50 women who were jailed for having abortions after a personal pardon was issued by the country’s president, Paul Kagame.

Human rights activists welcomed the pending release of the women, six of whom had been given life sentences – the highest penalty available to the courts – two serving 25 years and the others terms ranging from 12 months to 20 years.

“It is a positive step,” said Tom Mulisa, executive director for the Great Lakes Initiative for Human Rights and Development (GLIHD).

Dr Agnes Odhiambo of Human Rights Watch in Kenya, said they should never have been jailed. “While this is a good move, women and girls should never, in the first place, be imprisoned for exercising their reproductive rights. The government of Rwanda should remove punitive measures for women who undergo abortions.”

Welcome news indeed. Slowly the world moves forward as womens rights are recognised. Rwanda is a better place today.

Great. It's time to get all dressed up and get out there and mingle. What time will they be let loose? I want to be there before all the pretty ones are taken..

Were they rape victims? Were some of them 10 years old?

The baby still gets a life sentence

No, each baby got a •DEATH• sentence. But now the murderers get to go free.

And Tainted Tommy applauds this. But then, this is the same subhuman piece of shit who openly sides with the Islamist child-rape gangs that infest his own country.

Tainted Tommy is no friend of children.

So what do you suggest a prison term should be for a woman who has an abortion in the US?

There is only one appropriate punishment for anyone who has any willing part in the cold-blooded murder of an innocent child, and that is to be put to death.

Well its good to know how you red neck far right think.

And you right wingers can't be
We can be Godless and free
God fearing and free!

What is truly disturbing is that as a society, we've degenerated to the point where so many of us think that killing an innocent child in cold blood is acceptable, and that it is those of us who oppose such violence who are labeled as “extremist”.
Bob would kill Gay folks as well. He doesnt discriminate.

We should be respectful of people who sincerely oppose abortion. Apparently, they were in the vast majority throughout history.

Personally, I think birth control is the best thing in the world, closely followed by abortion.

I am glad that some people are proposing that abortion be allowed in the continent under discussion. Maybe smaller populations will result in more quality lives for the people in those countries.
