Well true the Maccabee Revolt really started the civil war between the Hellenized Jews and the Zealots which Syria tried to stop and got involved. They forced conversion on the Edomite's and Hellenized Jews, they only had real control, independent for about 40 years, and the Romans came. Judah asked Rome to help against Syria which continued to fight with Judea and had their own civil wars Finally Rome takes over.
I am surprised most Christians never talk about this time period, I mean it's where Hanukah came from. Yes Rome did try to appease the Jewish people, but they continued civil wars.
