Okay. Micheal Vick does two years in federal prison and gets 2 games. This guy isn't even charged with a crime and gets 6 with a possible reduction to 4? Doesn't really make sense to me.

Ben Roethlisberger was suspended Wednesday for six games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, the league announced.

Commissioner Roger Goodell handed down the punishment a week after prosecutors decided not to charge Roethlisberger in a case involving a 20-year-old college student who accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub in March.

Maybe the league took into consideration that Vick already paid a pretty big due by being locked up for 2 years.

Ben gets more in lieu of not having gone to prison.

This said though, I think it's harsh regardless. It's the offseason, the guy should be allowed to enjoy his life and party. Whatever else happened besides him getting drunk as fuck was merely alleged.

The NFL jumped the gun on this one if you ask me.

Sorry Paulie, but while I keep an open mind on the rape allegations Ben got not only his team but the league as a whole some really, really embarrassing publicity with his stupidity. If players can get fines in the thousands for not pulling up their socks, 4 - 6 games for this kind of black eye sounds about right.

I don't like the fact that the NFL suspends him when he was not even charged. So, now what happens? A big game coming up and a female fan of the other team suddenly claims she was gang raped by the entire backfield of the other team and they all get suspended?

What a crock, NFL league officials are trying to destroy the NFL in the same way NASCAR has destroyed its "game".

I agree with you. But Vick was convicted of a felony and Big Ben was never even charged. The NFL stepped on their dick on this one. They should have never been involved.

Take the alleged rape out of the equation altogether...

What did the guy do that was so wrong?

We were talking about this at work today.

This sets a dangerous precedent.

I'm going to take a vacation to Texas this summer with my girlfriend, and find out where Tony Romo is hanging out. I'll have my girlfriend claim he raped her in his vehicle outside of the place we were all hanging out at.

That should be good enough to sit his ass on the bench for about 4-6 so the Eagles can get a game in without having to deal with him.

In fact, I really don't think I want to have to deal with DeMarcus Ware, either.

Looks like we'll be busy on our vacation.

I find it amazing that he got six games, I was expecting four at most. You're right, it does set a dangerous precedent. I have to wonder what happens in the future if other players are just merely accused of crimes and are found to be innocent, do they get 3 games?

I understand how it should be severe if he were guilty of the actual rape, hell, he should of gotten a lot more along with jail. However, there was not enough evidence to even charge him, nor any medical evidence. So, deciding how to punish people by the court of public opinion can be very dangerous.

I'd suggest you bring up the allegations about 14 weeks before the game it will take a little bit of time for the NFL to act. I'd say 14 weeks is about right. However, it might take a couple of tries to get the timing down. You may miss by a week or so, but people who follow your lead will get the timing down.

WEll we have 2 games, so if we miss the first one maybe it'll be just in time for the 2nd.

If nothing else, it weakens them and knocks them out of playoff contention.

This is great though. The NFL just acts on media coverage, so we can ruin anyone's career that we want!

You have a point here to some extent. If it were his first time generating bad press for the league and if the league's penalties for idiotic BS weren't normally so stiff I'd be a lot more forgiving. But overall this was more of a straw breaking the camel's back if you ask me.

Maybe fewer games, but drunk stupid behavior and a history of being an asshole at best with the ladies should be discouraged. The NFL is a family entertainment industry after all, that's how they make their money. They have an interest in keeping their stars honest - or at least far more discreet about their asshattery.

I'm sorry, I understand that's the story they spin but really. They have the cheerleaders on camera in less clothes than ever every few minutes. There's rampant amounts of alcohol in the games being drunk. Never mind the fact that players are being paid millions to in many cases go and potentially cripple a player, not sure if I'd call that family entertainment.

I'm not complaining about the NFL in general, but if that's family entertainment then I'd hate to see what is considered adult entertainment outside of porn and strip clubs.

The actions are only as bad as the media portrays them via 24/7 opinion-laced coverage. It goes beyond reporting facts, like most other stories.

I don't think players should be held hostage to that.

And what of the next girl who decides to pin an alleged rape on a player because at the very minimum it will get him suspended simply due to media coverage?

Where does it stop?

Like I said, I'm going to get some of my division rivals' players suspended since apparently all it takes is an accusation and some news coverage.

No takers.

Let's just wait and see what happens tomorrow, first.

It was for a top 10 according to ESPN.

I'd take him.
Interesting tidbit:

In 2005, when teh Chargers took Eli #1, The Giants were going to take Big Ben with the 5th pick, as they had him rated higher then Rivers.

The Chargers called NY and said they would trade Eli for Rivers and a #1 since Manning refused to sign with SD.

Big Ben ended up winning two SB for the Steelers, Eli won one for the Giants and the Chargers still haven't seen the big show.
