Okay. Micheal Vick does two years in federal prison and gets 2 games. This guy isn't even charged with a crime and gets 6 with a possible reduction to 4? Doesn't really make sense to me.

Ben Roethlisberger was suspended Wednesday for six games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, the league announced.

Commissioner Roger Goodell handed down the punishment a week after prosecutors decided not to charge Roethlisberger in a case involving a 20-year-old college student who accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub in March.

Ben gets more in lieu of not having gone to prison.

This said though, I think it's harsh regardless. It's the offseason, the guy should be allowed to enjoy his life and party. Whatever else happened besides him getting drunk as fuck was merely alleged.

I agree with you. But Vick was convicted of a felony and Big Ben was never even charged. The NFL stepped on their dick on this one. They should have never been involved.

I find it amazing that he got six games, I was expecting four at most. You're right, it does set a dangerous precedent. I have to wonder what happens in the future if other players are just merely accused of crimes and are found to be innocent, do they get 3 games?

I understand how it should be severe if he were guilty of the actual rape, hell, he should of gotten a lot more along with jail. However, there was not enough evidence to even charge him, nor any medical evidence. So, deciding how to punish people by the court of public opinion can be very dangerous.

I'd suggest you bring up the allegations about 14 weeks before the game it will take a little bit of time for the NFL to act. I'd say 14 weeks is about right. However, it might take a couple of tries to get the timing down. You may miss by a week or so, but people who follow your lead will get the timing down.

If nothing else, it weakens them and knocks them out of playoff contention.

You have a point here to some extent. If it were his first time generating bad press for the league and if the league's penalties for idiotic BS weren't normally so stiff I'd be a lot more forgiving. But overall this was more of a straw breaking the camel's back if you ask me.

Maybe fewer games, but drunk stupid behavior and a history of being an asshole at best with the ladies should be discouraged. The NFL is a family entertainment industry after all, that's how they make their money. They have an interest in keeping their stars honest - or at least far more discreet about their asshattery.

I'm sorry, I understand that's the story they spin but really. They have the cheerleaders on camera in less clothes than ever every few minutes. There's rampant amounts of alcohol in the games being drunk. Never mind the fact that players are being paid millions to in many cases go and potentially cripple a player, not sure if I'd call that family entertainment.

I'm not complaining about the NFL in general, but if that's family entertainment then I'd hate to see what is considered adult entertainment outside of porn and strip clubs.

The actions are only as bad as the media portrays them via 24/7 opinion-laced coverage. It goes beyond reporting facts, like most other stories.

I don't think players should be held hostage to that.

And what of the next girl who decides to pin an alleged rape on a player because at the very minimum it will get him suspended simply due to media coverage?
