The Republican National Committee has rejected a proposal from its Democratic counterpart to sign a joint “civility” statement, POLITICO has learned.

Various members of the DNC — including Chairman Tim Kaine, Executive Director Jen O’Malley Dillon and Communications Director Brad Woodhouse — contacted their respective RNC counterparts this week in hopes of getting RNC Chairman Michael Steele to co-sign a document with Kaine that, in part, called for “elected officials of both parties to set an example of the civility we want to see in our citizenry.”

“We also call on all Americans to respect differences of opinion, to refrain from inappropriate forms of intimidation, to reject violence and vandalism, and to scale back rhetoric that might reasonably be misinterpreted by those prone to such behavior,” read the proposed joint statement, which came at the end of a week that saw acts of vandalism and threats of violence directed at members of Congress from both parties, but mostly aimed at Democrats who voted yes on the health care bill

Of course they won't. But asking someone to deny the most looney toon fringe element is the oldest trick in the book. We saw a lot of it during the previous 9 years.

This coming from a party whose leaders ridiculed and criticized those that applied their right to freedom of speech?

Sorry. I see this as a political tactic to gain an edge.

Both parties need to stop this game playing.

Blow me.

More strongly worded message to follow.

i'm sorry. you were saying?

Of course they won't.

If it was Republicans being threatened and Democrats wouldn't condemn the threats, the "liberal media" would be all over it. As would the Conservatards on this forum.

All Republican leaders have done is fan the flames..

I hate to say it but I really think it will take someone getting hurt badly or worse for them to realize what you say does matter.

I think this kind of thing is a complete waste of time and money. Its a piece of paper saying they do not condone the violent acts of some who may follow there party or aspects there of..... Really? No sh_t....

Its not worth the paper its written on and definitely not worth the money and time spent on lawyers, aides, and necessities to bring something like that into existence.

And the fact the left would propose such an idiotic and wasteful example of style over substance, is very telling...

They will continue to dismiss it...even AFTER someone gets seriously injured or killed.

Its not going to be their fault, it never has and it never will.

Republicans...

Yep, because EVERY Republican had a hand in that. EVERY single one of them. They should ALL be jailed because of it.

When will you stupid liberals realize that there are fringe groups on BOTH sides of the aisle that do this kind of shit. The Republicans don't have a monopoly on this behavior.

Rick

Refusing to engage in the Democrats' Kabuki Theater of Faux Post-Partisanship is not the equivalent of refusing to condemn acts of intimication, violence, and vandalism.

The GOP has condemned actual acts - which are very few and far between. Signing such a document plays in the Dems hands that such acts are endemic.

This is pretty clearly a pathetic tactic on the part of the Dems to equate Tea Party supporters who are by and large peaceful with the violent extremists on the fringe of the Left.

100% true.

However, Politicians gain power by pointing out and running against the other side's looney tunes. That's pretty much been the game for the last 234 years of American history.

So of course the DNC will capitalize on violent right wing loonies, just as the RNC capitialized on the Code Pink wackos. That's just how it works.

Ok then you don't mind if we use that same logic in regards to your side...

Using the standards set by this topic:

1. We can deem the entire Vietnam conflict the responsibility of the democratic party. They escalated it first...

2. We can blame the filibustering of the civil rights act on the democratic party because it was the southern democrats who did it.

3. We can blame the entire Great Depression on the democratic party because they were in charge when the fed held back the money supply.

4. We can blame the entire housing bubble on the democratic party because they pushed to get high risk loans to the poor.

See how that works? Not fair is it....:doubt:

Let me paraphrase the DNC: "Hard core rhetoric is sooooo Bush era. Civility is all the rage now"

Now sign it or else we continue to call you homophobic, racist, hate mongoring, religious idiots.

And we, the people eat this stuff up like candy.

And we, the people are the ones who lose in the end.

Why do I say that?

Exactly how many members of congress will have the same stipulations placed on their family that are laid out in the new HC law?

How much in penalties did Gheitner pay on his un-paid taxes?

How much did Rangel pay?

How much does an average American Citizen pay in penalties?
