Rise of a Texas Bluesman: SRV

Stevie Ray Vaughan woke up the blues at a time when it was probably at it's
least popular time - late 70's and early 80's. From my perspective , you had the original blues cats - Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, BB King......and then along came Eric Clapton who was suddenly overshadowed by guys like Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads. 12 bar blues was boring and limited to what's already been done.

Then here's this kid from Texas who brought it back to life, and while
it didn't turn many heads at first ( wasn't he booed at a jazz festival once ?)--
eventually it caught on. A lot of music is blues-based, but SRV expanded
the blues genre into it's own place....opened the doors for all kinds of new
possibilities.
rip sir...
