"The retired Florida police captain who fatally shot a man inside a movie theater in 2014 was acquitted of murder by a jury late Friday. Curtis Reeves, 79, was charged with second-degree murder after he gunned down 43-year-old Chad Oulson during a matinee screening of “Lone Survivor” in suburban Pasco County. Defense lawyers and prosecutors were in agreement that Reeves asked Oulson to stop texting during the movie previews — which started an argument that ended with the former Tampa police captain opening fire.

His lawyers successfully argued that police training informed Reeves’ decision to open fire, as
he believed his life was in dangerwhen the victim threw his cellphone at his face and appeared ready to climb over the seat and attack him. Reeves “had more knowledge, more experience, more study in that area than anyone in this courtroom,” defense attorney Richard Escobar said. “It’s a dangerous world.”

Glad this guy got off....and it shouldn't had took fucking 8 yrs to do it...one of the most irritating and disrespectful things you can do is text on your phone while people around you are trying to watch a movie...Instead of getting off the phone, this crazed moron decides to assault a retired cop and bam, he is out there...guess who won't be the Lone Survivor.....

This shouldn't just be a defense constrained to people at a movie theater; there are plenty of times where these folks get in your face at restaurants, giving you crap about wearing a mask, arguing with you at sports bars over their shitty teams -- they even try to argue with you over something as petty as a parking space -- well, if more of these folks were gunned down every now and then, we wouldn't have these kind of problems.

I get why the man took out that gun. He took it out for the very reason why he has it with him in the first place. The man is getting ready to go into his 80s and so he of course needs all the help that he can get where self-defense is concerned since he isn't as young and strong as he used to be anymore.

God bless you and him always!!!

P.S. My only question is, was the man in jail during the eight-year period? The write doesn't say where he was.

This ruling is complete bullshit. I bet because he's ex-law enforcement had a lot to do with his being acquitted.

An armed society is a POLITE society... I mean, who goes that far off the deep end when they're asked to obey the rules within the theatre? Did he deserve to die for being an A-hole? NO. BUT, had he not been an A-hole the altercation would never have happened.

he shot Chad Olson because he threw popcorn in his face. honestly, he should be locked up

Damn was he sitting in the man's lap, did his phone have a loud speaker on it?
