Repubs are excellent at this sort of thing.

In 2019 there were 7,571 inmate deaths in 500 jails across America. Of those deaths, 4,998 were inmates who had not been convicted of the charges for which were being held.

Your posts are always about making unsubstantiated claims without offering a shred of evidence.

When you present opinion as supposed evidence, that's all your posts deserve as a response.

People feel unsafe, and rightly so. Criminals see bail reform as the powers that be giving them carte blanche to do what they wish.

If you want to understand why Repubs are competitive in elections (besides gerrymandering) despite favoring unpopular policy positions on just about every major issue, this post provides an explanation. In a nutshell, it's their unmatched ability to exploit the public's ignorance and spread disinformation on wedge issues.

DEBUNKING LIES ABOUT BAIL REFORM

Ahead of the 2022 legislative session, there has been an increased appeal from those opposed to criminal legal reforms to change certain New York State laws, such as the pretrial reforms that went into effect in the first half of 2020. Those reforms prohibited cash bail for certain misdemeanors and nonviolent offenses, so that thousands of individuals – all of whom are considered innocent of their charges until proven otherwise – could take care of their families, keep their jobs, and work with their attorneys to prepare their cases.

The calls for rollbacks to bail reform claim these bail law changes have caused an increase in violent crime across the state, stoking public safety concerns about the law’s impact. However, a closer look shows that these claims are either based on no evidence or on faulty data.

Fact-checking claims bail reform is driving increase in violent crime

During a congressional hearing in late June, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, suggested reforms eliminating cash bail could partially be to blame for the recent spike in crime. Graham asked FBI Director Christopher Wray if he believed “one of the reasons crime is on the rise is that certain jurisdictions have basically eliminated bail?”

“You catch them on Monday morning and they’re out on the streets Monday afternoon,” Graham said.

While Wray did not directly answer Graham’s question, he suggested that “one of the causes of the violent crime spike are certain kinds of prosecution practices,” adding that “there’s nothing more disheartening to a law enforcement officer to see somebody that you worked hard to arrest promptly back out committing a crime again.”

Facts First: There’s no clear evidence linking bail reforms – which have been in place for years in some cities – to the recent rise in violent crimes. In fact, the majority of cities that have seen increases in crime have not eliminated cash bail. Many variables have contributed to the increases Graham is referencing but CNN has seen no evidence to suggest that bail reform is a major factor.

As is often the case, the foundation for the disinformation being spread about the connection between cashless bail and increased crime is created from another steaming pile of horse shyte.

Fact check: The GOP’s dishonesty-filled barrage of ‘defund the police’ attack ads

WashingtonCNN —
Republicans have been running ads around the country that use a variety of dishonest tactics to try to create the inaccurate impression that the Democratic candidates they are targeting support defunding the police.

Some of the Republican ads simply make things up. Other ads falsely describe bills the Democratic candidates have supported. Still other ads try guilt by association, noting that the candidates have supporters who have called to defund the police but not mentioning that the candidates themselves have rejected defunding the police.

One particularly egregious guilt-by-association ad accuses a Democrat of marching with a pro-defunding progressive group without providing evidence of the supposed marching and without noting that the event in question was a local “Fun Fest” that took place nearly three years before the group endorsed defunding.

In short, Repubs seized on an increase in crime all over the country during the pandemic to weave a duplicitous narrative combining falsehoods about cashless bail and "defund the police".........the mis-named idea that police violence could be mitigated by reallocating funds within police depts.........., to come up with the campaign slogan that Dems are soft on crime. In typical fashion, Dems have not created an effective counter narrative. In part because the simplistic messaging by Repubs requires complexity to refute.

Your ineffectual blather does nothing to counter the point. Which is not the deaths in jail per se, but rather that about 60% of the people who died were in jail because they couldn't afford bail, not because they had been found guilty of a crime.

I read your posts, I scan you links, my conclusion is the same as before.

When you present yourselves as champions of the criminals, the criminals do what they do best and take advantage of the situation.

Nothing like letting other people do your supposed thinking for you, right berg?

baaaaaaaaaa,

You can reference bullshit social studies 101 theory all you want, the end result is cities are less safe, more people are fucked up, and normals are sick of being harrassed trying to do everyday activities.

Crime is crime. when people feel unsafe they feel unsafe.

50 people invading a store and taking as much shit as they can may be "non violent" but I am sure anyone trying to stop them would get a violent response.

Intimidation of this type doesn't cross the line to actual violence, but it sure makes people scared of their well being.

That, and eventually the stores they rely on will shut down.

Crime: Red Delusions About Purple Reality

Americans aren’t wrong to be concerned about crime. Nationwide, violent crime rose substantially in 2020; we don’t have complete data yet, but murders appear to have risen further in 2021, although they seem to be declining again.

Nobody knows for sure what caused the surge — just as nobody knows for sure what caused the epic decline in crime from 1990 to the mid-2010s, about which more shortly. But given the timing, the social and psychological effects of the pandemic are the most likely culprit, with a possible secondary role for the damage to police-community relations caused by the murder of George Floyd.

While the crime surge was real, however, the perception that it was all about big cities run by Democrats is false. This was a purple crime wave, with murder rates rising at roughly the same rate in Trump-voting red states and Biden-voting blue states. Homicides rose sharply in both urban and rural areas. And if we look at levels rather than rates of change, both homicides and violent crime as a whole are generally higher in red states.

So why do so many people believe otherwise? Before we get to politically motivated disinformation, let’s talk about some other factors that might have skewed perceptions.
