Now however, it will be back in the hands of the GOP.

Some of my family were in politics in Orange County from about 1920, are you suggesting they were in the KKK? If so, you are wrong, they were staunch Republicans, we have always been a Republican family, we have never had any member associated with the KKK as the KKK have always been associated with the Democrats.

The KKK officially has never had a political party affiliation, although it did work to get Republicans elected in Colorado (Means, Senator), Oregon (Baker, Mayor of Portland), Washington (Johnston, Rep), Kansas (Paulen, Governor), Indiana (Jackson, Governor), Colorado again (Morley, Governor) and Maine (Brewster, Governor, Congressman, Rep) and worked against Democrats Walton (Oklahoma, Governor), Underwood (Alabama, Senator), LBJ (Texas, Senator) and ran a national smear campaign against POTUS candidate Al Smith (1928) and endorsed his Republican opponent Hoover as well as Republican Coolidge (1924), as well as a plethora of generally Republicans in local offices especially around Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and of course......... Indiana.

All of this was going on at the same time the KKK was infiltrating California especially Orange County.
So much for "always been associated with the Democrats".

When the KKK dabbled in politics (and most of its activities were outside of it), they used Democrats where Democrats would further their cause, they used Republicans where Republicans would further their cause, and no party at all when that worked, such as the write-in campaign for Charles Bowles in Detroit.
