Republicans like to think they understand the concept of “free shit” but actually don’t

it’s a phrase used by republicans to denigrate the left for wanting tuition free college or socialized healthcare, but they don’t really understand how these concepts are no different than programs already in place.

When a republican’s house is on fire or they need police assistance do they pay the responders personally? Uh no. They keep the “free shit”. You see, something like free tuition or socialized medicine are no different. All of these programs are paid for with tax payer revenue. Bernie, after all, has tax proposals to pay for his ideas.

I guess we have to assume that people know the definition of free, which apparently you're too stupid to understand.

If it's "free" then you didn't pay for it.

If you pay property taxes, then you pay for fire and police protection.

If you pay income taxes then you pay for our wonderful gov't and all the bullshit associated with it. This would mean you ACTUALLY WORK.

If you pay sales taxes, then you pay for roads and bridges. This also comes from the purchase of gas and diesel.

If you work and purchase health insurance instead of the latest iPhone 35, then you're not getting it free.

If you sit at home and do nothing and get welfare, you're not paying anything so everything you get is FREE. Free healthcare, free fire and police protection, free use of roads and bridges, free housing, etc.

These crazy republicans keep talking about this "free shit." but I don't know what they are talking about. We pay into the system, we get what we need, education, police, fire, ambulance, food assistance, housing assistance, FEMA assistance when a flood or tornado strikes in our country. There is no such thing as "free stuff." When I see people standing in the ruins of their homes in Oklahoma, New Orleans, Houston, I have some comfort in knowing that help for them is on its way. I am dishearted by the treatment of our folks in Puerto Rico. What is this? Throw paper towels at them???? First thing for our government. Get everything to Puerto Rico.

"OUR FOLKS?"

wtf?! You hail from the common wealth. You don't have a voice in this conversation, butt out.

Securing the nations food supply is a national priority. We need to make sure it is constantly stabilized.

I am guessing you come from the city, and have no idea how farming, and planing on long term planting needs goes. . . . so. . . we don't really need to have much of a conversation on this.

Just trust me, if you want to have stable food prices in the long term, like two, three years out, trust me, this is for YOUR BEST INTEREST, and the nations best interests.

It is a matter of national security. This is why the SNAP program is also in the farm bill.

Most of this 'free shit' and other type of talk is popular since conservatives own talk radio. Even in liberal southern california, it's mostly hannity and limbaugh who frighten lotsa seniors into believing that liberals are ruining this country. And seniors are a serious voting block. Also working stiffs buy into this crap. Union guys in trucks with trump stickers not realizing that republicans wouldn't piss on a working stiff. There's little to no liberal talk radio to counter this crap like in the old days. In reality, most of the free shit goes to the top 1% who we're to believe does all the work and supports all the leaches on the bottom. In the meantime most of the gains in wealth in this country now make it to the top earners thanks to legislation by our corrupt, bought and paid for politicians. We now have three individuals owning more wealth than the bottom 50% of the population so naturally people that believe everything they hear think that these poor overworked rich guys are carrying tens of millions of free loaders. The battle should be against the unequal distribution of wealth, not us proles fighting each other.

Uh no. Anyone going to college in such a scenario pays taxes.

You offered NO argument against what I said.

If they work & pay taxes while going to college, they are still paying for everybody elses college & will do so for life.

And that's what you call "free".
Christ everyone pays taxes. You implied those who go to college don’t. And yeah, this concept applies to any government program some people don’t use. Plenty of people aren’t on Medicare or Medicaid yet they pay for those taxes myself included. You don’t hear me whining. Without tax payer revenue, elderly people and kids of poor families wouldnt get healthcare.

Billy, our founders never wanted anything like this. They wanted free people, not kept people by their federal government. It's the reason they left and found this land in the first place.

Thanks to progressivism (if you wish to call it that) we went from a free people, to a cradle-to-grave government. Government provides housing (in suburbs for many cities) provides food, provides medical care, provides phones, provides daycare centers, provides utilizes, tells us what to eat, what we can and cannot smoke, what kind of cars we should be driving, provides retirement funds, what our children are allowed to eat in school, and even a choice of gender you wish to be.

Does that sound like we are free people to you? And to add insult to injury, it's not enough. Now government wants to provide you with national healthcare coverage and college as well. What's left for you to decide? What color of carpet you have in your home?

I support the government providing the large majority of those things. Not even sure what you mean by phones or gender but whatever.

Let me put this way: obviously there is such a thing as too much government. However, there is also such a thing as too little. That balance is important.
So what is too much?
This from a guy who compares college education with the police. He does not understand what the government is there to do...
The reason why free college is important is because the country benefits from educated people. We NEED more educated people like doctors or scientists.

Lol it’s you people who say “free shit” not me. If you actually read my post you would see that i clearly made a point about tax revenue.

In essence, you want socialism. There is no liberal talk radio because nobody wants to listen to that crap. If they had anything to say worth while, they would have been able to have talk radio.

Free tuition means the people who are going to school don't pay...the taxpayer pays.

That means you pay for school whether you go or not. If you decide to NOT go to college...tough shit, you are going to pay for it any way...and you will continue to pay as long as you live!

That's what "FREE" means!

I for one think we have way too much government controlling our lives. What happened to the good ole days when if you wanted something, you simply bought it? You want stocks, you buy them. You want real estate investments, you buy property. You want to make more money than others, you invest in education or a business of your own. You need healthcare coverage, you only took jobs that provided it. You want a better paying blue collar job, you paid for trade school

Now, with everything government provides, that's not good enough. Now it metastasized into free college? You call that the middle?

Okay but the government doesn’t make every decision for you. That’s just the usual lame nanny state talking point that lacks any validity. It’s one of those beliefs that simply sounds real but actually isn’t.

Also, the jobs that provide good health insurance are very competitive. The result is millions having no choice but to accept shitty jobs.

If you get them to agree, you'll have my support.

Correct. The government doesn't make every decision for you......yet. But leave it to you leftists, they will. When the Democrats have power, they are able to make more and more of your decisions for you.

I want a 20oz Pepsi. Government says you can only have a 12oz Pepsi. I want a 15 round magazine in my gun. Government says you can only have a 5 round magazine for your gun. I want my school to serve pizza for lunch. Government says you can't have pizza for lunch, you can have mixed peas instead or starve. I want to drive my car with no seatbelt. Government says you cannot drive your car without a seatbelt. I want to go to a bar, and have a beer and a cigarette. Government says you can't have a cigarette with your beer.

For crying out loud, even the former USSR didn't do this to their people. 30 years ago you couldn't compare the government restrictions of places like Cuba to the USA. Thanks to liberalism, you can today.

Okay. Does society benefit from me having a car? After all, I would use that car to go to work and back, use that car to buy food for my family, so shouldn't government provide me with one? Does society benefit from me having a home; a place where I can live, a place to raise my family? Would society benefit from me having this internet? I can educate myself on the internet, look for a new job, buy things for my home?

What society can benefit from is the most pathetic excuse of them all. We still benefit from these people with those careers anyway. In fact, some careers have too many people in them already, such as a few you named above like psychologists, economists, and lawyers. They are all around us.

You have way too much all or nothing thinking about this. No the government shouldn’t provide you a car. However, a job should pay enough to where you can afford to buy one. If it doesn’t, the government needs to intervene for the sake of the common good.
