And dats dat.

The one reality of the Yankees is that they make the most money and spend it. The Giants probably increased the cost to N.Y but it was never really in doubt once they decided he had to retire a Yankee.

Rosenthal says the deal is pending a physical. It is the largest contract for a free agent in baseball history, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Nightengale reported Judge had a similar offer from the San Francico Giants before deciding to stay in New York. He informed the Yankees of his decision late Tuesday.

Judge won the 2022 AL MVP with the Yankees after breaking Roger Maris' record with 62 home runs. The year-old hit .311 with 131 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a league-best 1.111 OPS.

In seven seasons with the Yankees, the four-time all-star has a career .284 average to go along with 220 home runs, 497 RBI and a .977 OPS.

The right-handed outfielder has played 44 games in five trips to the postseason — where he has hit .211 with 13 home runs in 171 at-bats.

Judge rejected an eight-year, $230.5-million offer from the Yankees just before last season -- and cashed in on the gamble on Wednesday.

No athlete is worth that kind of money. If he were to hit 60 HR a year, that would be 540 across the contract. That works out to $666,000 per home run!

Phillies got a much better deal with Trea Turner.

I should quit reading sport pundits, but that's the way it is. Especially during the off season.
I hope Judge is happy with his millions.

He flew out to San Diego at the last minute and the Yankees increased their offer. Amazingly he apparently turned down more money to sign back with the Yanks.

Turner and now Judge. The Padres are striking out. Personally I would rather play in SD than in a shithole.
Trea turned down $342 Million with the Padres and went to the Phillies for $300M. I guess he felt it would result in a championship. Who knows.

And this is why MLB is fatally flawed. Because there is no "real' salary cap and giant TV money markets like the Yankees and the Dodgers have enormous advantages in procuring the best players and paying as much as they need to to keep them. No, they will not be in the World Series every year, but it almost guarantees them to be in the playoffs annually and smaller markets simply cannot compete.
