If the monuments to the past are passé.

What would be the point of building any monument to honor anyone?

No one is perfect so there's no point in honoring anyone with memorials or naming anything after them.

All things need to be renamed with a simple alpha-numeric designation so there is no significance or honor bestowed whether it be streets, buildings, parks, ships, or any other public construct.

Public buildings and all public projects should be simple constructs made of the plainest stone and built to last with no intrinsic artistic value. Art itself should be banished from the public venue and all government funding for artistic displays should be cancelled lest someone attempt to gain notoriety through such expression utilizing public funds.

Down with the establishment!

Welcome to the future.

Public servants should receive no notoriety and should not be remembered past their time in office. Any supposed achievements they accomplished are not theirs to claim. Anything worthwhile coming from a supposed public official is really the accomplishments of the people and all accomplishments belong to the people.

Personally I think it's a sad day in our history for the vandalism done to our monuments and can only hope it's over. Regardless of who or what they were of, they were still reminders of how far we had come. Yet now they are gone, we've lost not only the statues but whatever progress of our own humanity.

I do agree that it should be illegal to name any public building after some scumbag politician, especially while he is still living and even still in office.

Tear them all down. Fuck it. Let's burn this motherfucker to the ground and start over. War is the solution to all the world's problems. Let's get it on.

The statues were put there to honor the ownership of people as if they were cattle. Erected, in many cases, more as a direct insult to equality than to commemorate any honorable actions by the persons depicted.

Imagine if the Romans destroyed the Western Wall they built to house their horses back in the day that post WWII jews worship themselves at? Without the Western Wall there is no rational for Jews to be in Palestine since we know Yahweh never existed and the Bible and Talmud narratives are pretty gay. And without Jews in Palestine there would be no need for all the Jewish cryto-political organizations removing statues of dead guys in America who actually would never allow themselves to be herded onto cattlecars, as the post WWII narrative suggests.

Are you saying statues of confederate soldiers, mostly erected many years after the civil war as resistance to newly passed equality laws, are as historically relevant as the western wall?

It should be considered to be a crime to destroy ANY kind of monument without a public discussion and just because several nuts have been told those monuments "are bad". It's a shame for the whole country. Savages shouldn't be allowed to decide the fate of the cultural values of the whole country.

So what does that say about the monuments built prior to the Civil War when slavery was an accepted norm or after the Civil War as America set out on it's Imperialistic enslavement of the world?

You accept those forms of slavery with blissful ignorance?

They are tearing down monuments and statues that had nothing to do with the civil war. The idiots don't know one from the other and are just tearing them all down. They've torn down a peace statue and a Revolutionary War statue. They have no clue as to the meaning of any of them. They are running amok and just destroying things and the left supports them.

Wouldn't marching back to serfdom be accepting that some people are greater than others and thinking you have to erect memorials and name things after them?

In actuality..."there is nothing more unequal, than equal treatment for
unequals."
