The linked Opinion article gives the facts and statistics of what Our Beloved President refers to as, "the Deep State," citing party identification numbers to explain why, when a Democrat is elected we have a unified government - the Deep State being fully supportive - but when a Republican is elected, we have a bureaucracy that is hostile to the platform of the elected Administration. This phenomenon was addressed in Project 2025, with suggestions for removing high-level Democrat-leaning bureaucrats with non-political or Conservative executives. This was merely a pipe dream, however; civil service protections are much too strong for such a comprehensive campaign. But it does explain much of what Trump and the DOGE team are doing now.

Something not mentioned in the article (and something with which I am quite familiar) is the shift in the type of people who seek out government employment over the past few decades. It used to be that all levels of government - in the "professional" categories - government employment attracted people who (sorry for the stereotyping) graduated at or near the bottom of their college classes, and wanted a career with gobs of worker protections, little stress, a 40-hour work week, good benefits and early retirement. In exchange for all these good things, they accepted pay that was somewhat lower than their counterparts got in the private sector. Of course, they could not have gotten those jobs in the private sector, but whatever.

Now we have people seeking public sector employment because they want to rule the world, or at least have a part in ruling the world. This is why we see the predominance of Democrats in agencies like the EPA, State Department, and USAID.

The only thing I don't like about what Trump and DOGE are doing is that they cannot go as far as is necessary to get the job done. But they should be lauded for their noble and aggressive attempt.

Really? Another failed, ineffectual attempt to prove the non-existent deep state really exists.
Here's a thought. Employee unions are objecting to the people they represent being fired in large part because the firings are being challenged on legal, not ideological grounds.

You need to find some self awareness. Stating there is no deep state, exposes you as a dumb MFing fool. Ike told you long ago. Didn’t you listen?

It’s really funny too.

Another morning, another posting of a damn conservative commentator with no qualifications whatsoever as if it is somehow based in fact. Disingenuous at best, pure gaslighting at worse. For instance, where did the numbers come from?

Guo Xu, an associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, has studied the magnitude and effect of partisanship in the federal workforce.

This guy specializes in selection, recruitment, and allocation of talent in both the private and public sectors. Phd in Economics from the London School of Economics, did his undergraduate work in Germany. Here is one of his white papers,

Guy knows his shit and has carved out a pretty nice niche for himself. He was good enough to cite the numbers from, what does he think about the numbers?

Xu is no conservative critic of the system — he takes the lack of turnover in the federal workforce when party control of the White House changes to mean “civil service protections work, shielding career civil servants from political interference.

Precisely how the system was designed to work. Note the title of that white paper, "The cost of patronage", that is what Trump is attempting to bring back. I mean you got some conservative blowhard, who really isn't your typical conservative. Graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, not in political science, or even journalism. But in Classics. LMAO, you can't make this up.

So McCarthy takes the numbers from Xu, and then turns what those numbers mean to Xu totally on its head. He knows what he is doing. Seeding stupidity.

I started working for the government in 1978 and that was true until 2010 when the government became more competitive and attractive.
The government offered wages that were not competitive with the private sector so naturally attracted the bottom of the graduating class. Stability and an early retirement was all they could offer.
After the Great Bush Recession of 2008, many professionals lost their jobs in the private sector and came to the government for stability and benefits. We got top engineers from IBM, Bell Labs, RCA, GE who lost their once dependable jobs.

This is way over their heads.

There is no such thing as any Deep State

Bullshit is bullshit. Of course, anybody with a bit of curiosity would know that since at least FDR, what has been called The administrative state, has been under attack. Administrative state? You know, the apparatus and staff needed to administer social security, veteran's benefits, etc. No modern government can exist with this.

But enemies of government, those who seek to run roughshod over the nation --back the business of the US is business -- have long sought dismantling government efficient or not, and needed a boogeyman. Bingo: call it some (plays the scary music) Deep State.

Do you even know what Ike spoke about in his farewell address in 1961?

I doubt your training goes very deep (your training in trolldom)

Obviously you don’t.

There is no Deep State

I worked for the federal government for almost 40 years.
We were restricted by the Hatch Act that prohibited political involvement. We could vote and make contributions but were prohibited from discussing politics at the workplace, campaigning or advocating for a party.
We also had to file a financial disclosure every year.

I did not know the political affiliations of any of my bosses or coworkers….and did not care

Ike told you. Just listen. It’s far more powerful today.

Stop listening to MSNBC.

When Americans can’t agree on whether the deep state exists, is proof propaganda works far too well.

Thank you.

"The Hatch Act of 1939, An Act to Prevent Pernicious Political Activities, is a United States federal law that prohibits civil-service employees in the executive branch of the federal government, except the president and vice president, from engaging in some forms of political activity. It became law on August 2, 1939."

Yeah because we all know the government never violates the law. :spinner:

Propaganda works when we see people like believing in imaginary boogeymen. It keeps you distracted.

It's already been mentioned that what is called an administrative state, and has existed as government has grown. One can not administer government without one D'Oh!

Where propaganda comes in is the creating a scary name and description for political and ideological purposes. People like you were primed to step into a cult-of-personality

Yeah because we all know the government never violates the law. :spinner:

troll elsewhere goofy

Excellent OP .
BUT
Do you really imagine that Deep State would allow one of its flagship outfits ( WaPo) to tell you the truth ?
This actually represents Deep State ridding itself of its own old Middle Management plus linked minions . Imho .

Deep State realised that the "Game Was Nearly Up " and are using Trumpfy to clear out the old whilst they quietly move in its replacement .
Whether Trumpfy later heralds in the " New Model " or is himself stood down is relatively academic
The point is to realise that Deep State is far more layered and deep than this surface revolution suggests to people who do not look long and hard at what is happening, and How and Why it was allowed to unroll .
imho
