Times may have changed in the Service like our times at sea with dead time but one thing that hasn't and that is how creative the troops are

Nobody, in the entire time I was in, ever called us "troops" unless they were an army guy making a mistake.

Just as a Marine is not a "troop" they are a Marine....

ok, but in my rating it happened from time to time. for example: take some troops down in the mag and break out 5,000 rounds of 20 MM.
