The Maricopa County Attorney's Office said it had lost trust in April Sponsel's abilities after she sought criminal charges against political protesters in 2020.

Sponsel was taken off the case, as a conflict of interest thing, since her husband an Arizona Public Safety Officer was shot earlier in the year, and the case could not be made, the BLM was a street gang. Murder gets prosecuted, but leveling gang activity as a blanket charge to up the pool and deepen the water so to speak was a non starter for the number of people charged at all, apparently.
