My run ins with younger blacks have clued me in to the huge difference between unintelligent and badly educated. The school systems in this country have a lot to answer for when it comes to what has happened to minority kids over the last 30 years.

I sincerely agree with you about the schools, but the parents hold little expectations from the children or the schools so it is more than just public schools fault.

Williams is an outspoken champion of black education and private school vouchers, indicting the public education system, as perpetrating "a fraud against African-American students and families by lowered standards." He is also a critic of the minimum wage and affirmative action, believing that both practices are detrimental to both blacks and liberty. Williams especially emphasizes his belief that racism and the legacy of slavery in the United States are overemphasized as problems faced by the black community and do not adequately explain the situation blacks face today.

There is an attitude among certain sections of society that education is practically worthless. No race has a monopoly, for there I have run into whites, blacks, and Hispanics who deride the educational opportunities. The reasons given range from "My folks are rich, I'll do good no matter what" to "I'm gonna make money trading crack" to "Hey Fast food jobs pay a lot batter than living in Mexico"

Public school teachers have little power to enforce discipline in a classroom; school districts, desperate for state money, make the priorities passing standardized government required tests and maximizing attendance, not necessarily in that order. Parents seem to threaten lawsuits whenever their children are punished for misbehavior, and the school, strapped for money is forced to back down. Specialists label unruly children as special needs or learning disabled and the teacher cannot tell the to sit down, be quiet and pay attention because little Johnny/Suzie has an excuse. I realize some teachers are pathetic drones taking home pay for little work, but even the best are hamstrung by parents, politicians and lawyers who seem to think they know more about education than any teacher could. Actually, that may be unfair to lawyers; they may not care if they know more as long as they can make money from lawsuits by pretending to know.
