Trump delivers again...

"President Trump on Thursday said the government will begin holding back funds for sanctuary cities – like New York – following a federal appeals court decision last month.

“As per recent Federal Court ruling, the Federal Government will be withholding funds from Sanctuary Cities,” Trump tweeted. “They should change their status and go non-Sanctuary. Do not protect criminals!”

The US Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled on Feb. 26 that the government can withhold millions in dollars in law enforcement grants to cities and states that do not give US Immigration and Customs Enforcement access to jails and alert the agency when an illegal immigrant is being released.

The decision overturned a lower court ruling ordering the administration to release the funds.

The Big Apple joined seven states – New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington – that sued the government in 2017 after the Justice Department said it would block the funds.

The appeals court ruling pertained to the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, named after the NYPD officer killed in 1988 in Queens, that is handed out to local governments to assist with law enforcement."

So he is cutting funding from citizens too, what a rotten man.

Never understood Sanctuary cities. Dunno why these cities wouldn't give up illegal aliens. I guess those who are for Sanctuary cities would say the govt might get it wrong on occasion causing distress to families. That is true, it will go wrong on occasion. However you could say that about any law. What is the end result? No laws? Interesting one...

No the Sanctuary Cities re cutting the funding from the citizens. If the cities followed the rules no funding would be cut.
So the blame is on the individual cities and not the Feds

I hope this forces local governments to stop wasting taxpayers $ on protecting criminals who shouldn’t be in this country.

Only if they do not obey federal law, and cooperate with the enforcement of the rules that keep everyone safe.

It isn't that unusual. When I was a kid, different states had different drinking ages, Federal Law made it uniform, states who didn't comply lost money.

Ditto with highway speeds, seat belt laws, and other areas of government.

Did you know that Obama Denied funds to states that refused to extend Medicaid as he demanded?

I’ll never understand how any politician could think the majority of their taxpayers would agree to having their $ go towards protecting criminals who are victimizing them.

Trump hasn't "delivered" jack shit. The Appeals Period on the February 26th court decision hasn't expired. The litigants have until March 27th to Appeal the Court Decision in this regard, and Trump cannot withhold funds until that Appeal Period has expired, no matter what he's announced.

I fully expect those who sued to prevent the witholding of funds, to appeal this decision all the way to the Supreme Court.

I will believe it when we see the dollar figures being withheld from each city and why the city would have been getting it to start with.
