WASHINGTON — U.S. President Joe Biden said three unmanned aerial objects that were shot down over the weekend by the U.S. military were “most likely tied to private companies, recreation or research institutions,” and were not connected to the massive Chinese surveillance balloon that was shot down on Feb. 4.

“We don’t yet know what these three objects were, but nothing right now suggests that they were related to China’s spy balloon program or that they surveillance vehicles from any other country,” Biden said at the White House.

The remarks came after days of mounting pressure from both Democrats and Republicans in Congress, who said the American people deserved to hear from the president exactly what the administration knew about the spy balloon and why Biden later ordered three more floating objects shot down by American fighter jets.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Thursday that China’s decision to levy sanctions against U.S. defense contractors was “deflecting and coming up with excuses and trying to spin” the spy balloon incident.

“At the end of the day, their surveillance balloon was indeed in our airspace,” she said. “All of the American people, the entire world saw what China did, and it was irresponsible.”

The massive Chinese surveillance balloon was first detected in American airspace off of Alaska on Jan. 28, and was shot down on Feb. 4 in U.S. airspace off the coast of South Carolina. Floating visibly above the continental U.S. and Canada for eight days, the spy balloon caused an outcry, with both the public and members of Congress demanding to know why Biden had not ordered the balloon be shot down sooner.

Less than a week after the spy balloon was destroyed, the first of three more objects was taken down in waters above the Arctic Ocean on Friday. The size of a small car and floating at 40,000 feet, this object was much smaller than the Chinese balloon.

One day later, a balloon that was similar in size and altitude was shot down over the Canadian Yukon. The third floating object was slightly smaller and floating at just 20,000 feet when it was taken out over Lake Huron on Sunday.

As of Thursday, the White House says it has recovered key surveillance technology from the Chinese balloon. But it is not clear whether any debris from the three smaller objects has been recovered.

As more information came to light this week, the White House has sought to draw an increasingly bright line between the Chinese spy balloon and the three balloons that were shot down in its aftermath.

While the Chinese balloon was clearly a surveillance vessel, the “leading explanation thus far” for the other three “is that they were most likely balloons of a commercial or maybe research nature,” White House spokesman John Kirby said Thursday during an event at Georgetown University.

He said there was “no indication” the three latest flying objects were related to China’s surveillance program.

Russian nuclear bombers intercepted TWICE in two days as they flew near Alaska in show of strength to West, US reveals

RUSSIAN nuclear bombers were twice intercepted over two days as they flew near to Alaska, the US military has revealed.

Footagereleased by the Kremlin shows two of its Tu-95 “Bear” bombers near to American airspace in a show of strength to the West.

The footage reportedly shows the noisy missile carriers flying over neutral waters in the Bering Sea accompanied by Russian fighter jets – very close to US airspace.

The Valentine’s Day mission was thought to be warning to the West amid Kremlin fury over supplies of weapons to Ukraine.

But it’s now emerged the video was of one of two mission flown by the Russians over 48 hours.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said it “detected, tracked, positively identified and intercepted four Russian aircraft approaching Alaska, Air Defense Identification Zone of Feb, 14.”

NORAD said this was the “second intercept of Russian aircraft over two days”.

The Russian aircraft included TU-95 Bear H, SU-30 fighter and SU-35 fighter aircraft, it added.

They were intercepted by two F-35A fighters supported by two F-16 figters, one E-3 Sentry (AWACS) and two KC-135 Stratotankers.

The flights came after repeated threats made by Russian officials and propagandists on using nuclear weapons amid deepening East-West tensions surrounding the war in Ukraine.

However, even before Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, the country had been stepping up its patrols near US airspace – increasing them by sixfold in recent years.

In the released images, the Russian aeroplanes can be seen preparing for takeoff from an undisclosed location at night.

One of the planes can then be seen taking to the skies before the other can also be seen taking off.

The footage then shows the view from inside the cockpit of one of the aircraft. Other shots also show the other plane, both of them apparently flying high above the clouds.

After a flight that is said to have lasted over seven hours, the aircraft can be seen coming in to land.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Tuesday.

Their statement claimed: “Two Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers of the Russian Aerospace Forces completed a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea.”

It continued: “Long-range aviation pilots regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, Pacific Ocean, Black and Baltic Seas.”

“All flights of aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are carried out in strict accordance with the International Rules for the Use of Airspace,” added Moscow.

The claims and the footage of the Valentine’s mission has not been able to be independently verified.

The Tu-95s are the world’s only propeller-powered strategic bombers.

The same type of planes – which date from the Soviet era – were hit at a base in Engels, Saratov region by a Ukrainian drone strike hundreds of miles inside the Russian border on December 5.

Two servicemen sustained wounds from the attack, according to reports.

The Soviet-era Tu-95s first flew some 70 years ago but remain a key part of Putin’s strike threat.

On Monday, two Dutch F-35 fighters intercepted three Russian military aircraft approaching Polish NATO airspace and escorted them away.

The news comes amid fears Vladimir Putin is preparing for a massive new spring offensive in the coming weeks to coincide with the first anniversary of the war on February 24.

However, NATO’s Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, has said that Russia has already launched its new offensive and was “sending more troops, more weapons, more capabilities”.

Stoltenberg, speaking ahead of a two-day NATO defence minister summit in Brussels, said that supplying aircraft to Ukraine would be discussed.

He also said that Ukraine was going through more ammunition than expected and that the war-torn country is using it faster than it could be supplied.

Ukraine has been monitoring the military build-up as they continue to plea for Western support – including during Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit last week to London.

As Russia ramps up its aggravations towards Western nations, Norway’s intelligence warns that the nation is on the path to becoming “more authoritarian and militarised” in the next few years.

“There is no turning back,” said Lars Nordrum, second in command of Norwegian intelligence.

“Russian interests will not be compatible with those of the West.”

This is Russia's best bomber capable of carrying nuclear payloads? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

in short, the *entire* western alliance, all of it's governments at their highest levels, need to embrace diplomacy and often letting things slide (especially some of the words projected on repeat by some of our adversaries) as the shield that is needed for what is essentially still a chess game with aspects of checkers and the boardgame 'go' added to it.
you try 'getting there by just projecting raw strength', you're gonna set yourself up for an endless series of serious regional wars, or even a (conventional) WW3 or WW N+1.

darn right they should. foreign made surveillance/listening objects can not be trusted over local areas.
not without an accord that specifies a 'descend now' command to these things.

darn right they should.

They should what? Shoot down legal, private property with no warning before they even know what the stuff is? That is reckless, wanton destruction of private property. They should be sued. Good thing it wasn't a passenger jet.

In other words, Biden was recklessly proactive in shooting down stuff that belonged up there posing no harm to anyone, but was 8 days late in shooting down the one real spy balloon after letting it hover over all of our most sensitive military bases.

Isn't that the definition of dangerously stupid incompetence?

You better hope Joe Biden doesn't misidentify your house tonight while you are sleeping, mistake it for a spy probe, and drive a tank through your bedroom!

Xiden is shooting down kids bday balloons now to deflect from his chinese spy scam
