After more than a decade teaching at Portland State University, Peter Boghossian has resigned and publicly shared his resignation letter which heavily criticizes the institution.

Boghossian, who noted that he is resigning as assistant professor of philosophy, said that students at the school are not getting "taught to think" and that faculty and administrators are pushing intolerance of divergent viewpoints.

Here's an excerpt from his letter:

I never once believed — nor do I now — that the purpose of instruction was to lead my students to a particular conclusion. Rather, I sought to create the conditions for rigorous thought; to help them gain the tools to hunt and furrow for their own conclusions. This is why I became a teacher and why I love teaching.

But brick by brick, the university has made this kind of intellectual exploration impossible. It has transformed a bastion of free inquiry into a Social Justice factory whose only inputs were race, gender, and victimhood and whose only outputs were grievance and division.

Students at Portland State are not being taught to think. Rather, they are being trained to mimic the moral certainty of ideologues. Faculty and administrators have abdicated the university's truth-seeking mission and instead drive intolerance of divergent beliefs and opinions. This has created a culture of offense where students are now afraid to speak openly and honestly.

It's a wonder he is still alive.

He himself was probably a good liberal professor which means open to ideas and different possibilities. The people in charge he is talking about are fascists. Its why kids go to college with a smile and them come back out later with anger, hating society and looking down on their parents for being dupes of a society that is now a racist hateful place.

Portland State is a solid public university (yes liberal) in a great location along the Willamette river on the west side of downtown (away from the problem areas on east side) and they have solid national ratings.

Why would you put up with that? he wouldn't need to sit in on anyones class to see the effect this is having on kids. Its exactly why we saw college age kids attacking police and setting things on fire the last summer during the riots

Portland St. being one of the most liberal colleges in the US, well, it probably was a difficult
atmosphere when you weren't in line with 'the curriculum'
