thats stupid, if someone tests negative does that mean he/she won't catch it the next day? You seem to think that a negative test means you can never get it. Test the people with symptoms, if they test positive treat them and isolate them, if negative that just means they dont have corona but may have flu or something else, then treat them for that disease.

I am staying home, are you? There is no practical way to test 330 million people. It might be good if there was, but there is not and never will be. If an employer wants to test his people when they come back to work, thats a good idea. Why would I be tested? I am retired, I have no symptoms, and have no underlying medical issues. I might get it from someone in a grocery store, but I am willing to take that risk in order to be able to buy food. If I get symptoms I will go to my doctor or a test site and get tested, until then give the tests to people with symptoms.

i can't stay at home which is why I need you to. My job is deemed critical infrastructure and an essential service. I work from home most days, but am required in the office at least once a week.

This is the United States of America. We put a man on the moon and won two world wars. Yes, we could test every single person. We manage to count them, we should be able to test them.

the trend seems to be going the right way. Trump's new date of 4/30 is looking possible.

June 30, 2020 is more realistic. You can't take any chances with this. Its so easy to transmit among people. A choir met for practice in Washington State on March 10, 2020. 60 people came in. They had hand sanitizer, no handshakes or hugs and practice social distancing keeping several feet between each person. No one who came were showing any symptoms.

45 out of the 60 choir members were infected with coronavirus. Of those 5 were hospitalized and two died.

This shows that despite hand cleaning and social distancing, just a couple of people not showing symptoms can infect a large group of people in a building.

No one should be allowed to go back to work at a non-essential service until they have tested NEGATIVE for coronavirus. Thanks to Trump, we don't have the capability to do that yet.

gradually, in the states with low infection rates and in businesses that have minimal contact with the general public. We cannot just turn the faucet on full blast on one day, it has to be a sensible gradual reopening. If we don't do that the country could fall into anarchy and worse.

60k is a bad flu (technically that was two years ago, the 2017-2018 season) but not an unheard of number. I don’t know that we had indications that it was going to be so severe early on and post-hoc analysis suggests that the vaccine that year was just not very effective.

However, the current situation is unprecedented. This is a totally novel virus that we are not equipped to handle well. It has high virulence and high mortality. We don’t have a vaccine and won’t have it available for some time. We don't have a treatment and we barely had tests early on when they would have been quite helpful to track, isolate and contain. We have evidence of the havoc it can play in locations.

This is a big deal no matter how you want to minimize it.

Your final point is unfortunate. No one wants the country to fail. No one wants people to die. We are all trying to figure out how to get through this with incomplete data.

Our hospitals are not being "overwhelmed". that may be true in NYC and parts of Cal, but no where else. Here in NOLA we have a high rate of corona cases but the latest data shows just over half of the hospital beds being used state wide. There is an outbreak in the city, but the rest of the state has very few cases and the hospitals are handling it.

In NYC they now have the 1000 bed hospital ship to handle the non-corona cases, your idol Madcow said that the ship would never get there as Trump promised-------but it did.

People who show no symptoms may carry the disease and can pass the disease on to others. If a person shows positive they must be isolated and kept away from others or they may pass the disease on to healthy people. If everyone were tested we all wouldn't have to isolate. Only folks testing positive would have to isolate.
