I'm seeing a lot of discussion but can't figure out who has the majority.

To re-open the US economy in a limited fashion around Easter Monday (4/13/20) with masks, social distancing, no sports venues, no cruises, or major crowds, just minimal re-opening businesses. The object is to keep as many companies in-business as possible.

Or, keep the economy and businesses shutdown until the coronavirus (COVID-19) is under control as recommended by the doctors, even if that means that many businesses would NOT re-open due to the lost revenue and bankruptcy.

Forget it. We're already going to be the new COVID-19 epicenter of the world. We'll just have to brace up and get through the depression.

All of the lock down measures that I've seen, have not been effective, as near as I can tell.
The clear example of this, would be Italy, which is again as near as I can tell, has the most strict and harsh lock down measure of any country.

Yet virus infections are still rising.

So.... given there doesn't seem to be much value in lock down, then we are left with a pointless policy that damages the entire economy. Corona, no matter which way you look at it, will be short term. Damage to the economy will be long term.

Now I do understand the logic, of trying to flatten the curve, and prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed. Again... not seeing that this is working.

I didn't know that Italy shutdown the entire country. Last I heard it was just the northern part.

The US needs to do as many other mitigation measures as possible to minimize the spread. Whether its no public transportation, or mandatory testing and temperature testing at work, or taking medications such as in this CDC link:

I'm not sure about schools or colleges. Still think they need to do their work online.

IMHO it shouldn't be any worse than normal flu, but it could be.
Still we can't stop working or the economy collapses.

What are we going to do in 6 months when the next flu season starts, shut down again? We have swung from one extreme to the other. Those at high risk should isolate, the rest of the country should get back to work. That's my opinion.

That's the plan fool------- this was a trial run to collapse the economy another bug is coming it will be a mutation off this 1st round the 2nd round we are told can be deadly--------

The ppl in Italy really are dying as mentioned just check out LEO Zagami where Italy is concerned....

Summer colds are worse than winter colds CHINA is already lying being hit with the H1N1 I think it is now..

The Chinese create all this sickly bs with their moronic living they do. I mean they take ppls crap and make oil out of it I mean my gawd.

Since this is a TRUMP ZOMBIE forum, the poll numbers will be in favor of opening up NON-ESSENTIAL Business. They don't understand or care how many Americans they will kill or at least put at risk of death.

This is not the time to be like a 20 year old idiot at the beach, thinking everything is normal.

Ah, but since most people HERE will fall in line with anything Trump says, the results of this poll are predictable.

Thank God Trump will no longer be President after the end of this year!

Opening non-essential business is just recipe to kill people and overwhelm and destroy the healthcare system. Its not about the economy, its about defeating the enemy. In this case the enemy is a Pathogen that is killing people. There is only one way to kill the Pathogen.

But I'm not seeing that doing this has slowed the virus.

If you could provide any evidence to support such a theory, I'd be more open to accepting it.

But at this point it's effectively the "Well it would have been worse!" arugment. Which isn't an argument. This is like Obama stimulus "It would have been worse!" or the super high insurance premiums after Obama Care "Well it would have been worse".

None of those are actual arguments. Just "you can't prove me wrong, so I must be right."

No, maybe you are just wrong.

Because here is the reality. People are still going to spread the virus. We just had a story out of Ohio, about all these kids out of school, going to the beach. They are not isolating themselves. They are still moving around, and interacting.

And people are still people. They are not going to just sit at home, like they are all in a coma. It's like all the parents pulling their kids out of school...... and putting them in Day Care. As if Day Care has magical powers to avoid spreading illness.

There simply isn't the evidence that any of these measures thus far, are effective.

Do you have any real evidence that these measures are effective? I'd love to see it. Honestly, give me a reason to believe. I'd like to believe. Just not seeing the evidence matching the claims.

I appreciate your perspective as a Biden fan. The forum voters are voting with their heads, and I respect that. If money grew on trees the economy could stay shut down months, but money doesn't grow on trees. Opening the economy back up before the virus is wiped-out will cost lives, but hopefully not more than a regular flu season, which is an acceptable loss every year.

IMHO Cuomo would make a more formidable candidate than Sleazy Joe Biden.
Anyone who voted for Trump in 2016 will vote for him again.
Any of the Bernie/Yang/Warren fans will have to force themselves to the polls to vote for Biden, especially after they see the upcoming debates. Good luck...in 2024 <g>

I tend to lean your way, open back up to an extent, then I talk to my wife and she tells me they are so low on PPE doctors at her hospital are actually taking how much PPE will be used into their making medical decisions for patients.

So, i have to admit I have no idea what the answer it, but I do agree we cannot keep our entire country on lock down.

Let the science guide
You do realize that this years flu makes covid 19 look like child's play....its been one of the worse seasonal flu's we have seen in a long time....we are and have been learning a lot in a short period of time....if Trump and his great team feels safe to turn back on the engine they will...if not they won't....

There are "open non-essential businesses" and businesses that will stay closed, depending on crowd size.
1. Schools & colleges stay closed
2. Sports venues stay closed, cruise lines and anything with big crowds stays closed
3. Bakeries, strip malls, most stores could open with minimal staff
4. Offices, government, open with minimal staff
5. Restaurants can open with tables spread out to 6' distances or every other bar stool open.
6. Airlines can open with sparse seating, i.e. every other seat empty
7. any suggestions?

Exactly. Its a "Faustian Bargain" in that we are risking some peoples lives, but those people can avoid the illness if they shelter in place. The US needs to get back to business sooner rather than later. I'm sorry of the medical staff gets inundated, but that's life. They need to get that vaccine and approved medications to the people STAT!!
