Your Imagination
The way it SHOULD work.

The role of the republicans is to sharpen the democrats and the role of the democrats is to temper the republicans, not to undermine each other at all costs.

The two parties are supposed to bring balance to each other. Instead of wholesale gutting the regulations proposed by democrats that ensure things like food safety, clean water and breathable air, the republicans are supposed to bring manageability to the paperwork and common business sense to the overall picture, with an ideology of 'conserving' resources, because it is so true that, left to its own devices, human industry by it's very nature of focusing on feeding itself daily would foul the planet and waste resources that our children deserve to have left to them.

The conservatives are supposed to be above the daily grind with an eye on conservation of resources and future economic development, carefully spending The Peoples resources on infrastructure, and they're failing just as miserably as the social democrats, whose job it is to carefully spend The Peoples resources on necessary but unprofitable things like primary education and healthcare for poor kids, which, if neglected, have their own economic ramifications.

Currently both ideologies are failing for the exact same reasons: Corruption & Money - including personal money, tax favoritism and blowing lobbyists for campaign money.

The corruption instilled in our complex tax code of favoritism must end.

Simple and therefore fair taxes and a budget balanced by law.
Fiscal sanity in the election process.
:dunno: Is that too much to ask?

In the days of the 24-hour news cycle feeding frenzies and on-camera posturing on C-span, not to mention youtube gotchas ... yes, it might be too much to ask.

Who can really get into the business of governing?

You didnt get the memo??? Left and Right fight because it keeps the masses hypnotised and entertained. They are a fucking magic show, and all the drama on tv is smoking hot blonde drawing your attention away while the magician hides the prize.

We all knew that the "day of reckoning" was coming. Now that S&P downgraded US Debt, and Medicare will be insolvent in 2017, the time has come to Balance the Budget.

IMHO the Super Committee will fail to agree and the default cuts will happen. I hope they can agree on the $4T in cuts, but history says that won't happen

Then the 2012 elections will be inconclusive, and the process continues...

I did NOT get that memo - I figured it out on my own.... And it's been a bitch organizing my thoughts and writing my own memo.

 To the internet! Forever the keeper of our memos!

Sad but true, eh?

Thank (insert your preferred Deity here) that evolution has a LOT more time to work this shit than we do individually.

Too much to ask?

Possibly.

Depends on what you mean by "fair taxes".

As to a balanced budget?

NOW?!

Yes, that IS too much to ask.

That would send this nation into a depression the likes of which this nation has never seen.

It looks like that is where we are going anyway.
