When pleasure centers get overloaded and overused the body is desensitized to pleasure which then results in the need for more and more things that give that dopamine hit.
Americans often overdo this dopamine rush, and you can see it when they walk down the street. Overeating and being obese is visual proof. I've heard of meth addicts that have so pulverized their dopamine receptors that they are no longer able to feel pleasure from any situation. That is a scientific fact.
