The vital pipeline, operated by Georgia-based Colonial Pipeline, delivers about 45% of the fuel consumed on the East Coast.

As of Sunday evening, about 12,466 stations had run empty, according to GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan.



In his latest update around 8 p.m. CT, De Haan said nearly 90% of the gas stations in the nation’s capital were running dry. Over the weekend, the number of gas stations suffering from the outages fluctuated between 69% to 88%, according to De Haan's data p

Gas travels at only 5mph through the pipeline to staging tanks. Then it has to be moved by tanker to the gas stations. Patience, grasshopper, patience. And stop hoarding gas you don't need.

BTW, I live a few hours north of NYC. There are no gas shortages here in a rural area where you have to drive to anyplace.

Shortages float around depending on where the trucks are going on any given day. The reality is that if people decide to flood gas stations and start hoarding, it is always going to create shortages. It happens periodically due to weather, panic buying and the like. It usually isn't this widespread and now that Washington and New York are affected, it is front page news. If it were just confined to them old red states because a hurricane was coming, they would just mention it in passing.
