The mud at the bottom of B.C. fjords reveals that solar output drives climate change - and that we should prepare now for dangerous global cooling
R. TIMOTHY PATTERSON, Financial Post
Published: Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Politicians and environmentalists these days convey the impression that climate-change research is an exceptionally dull field with little left to discover. We are assured by everyone from David Suzuki to Al Gore to Prime Minister Stephen Harper that "the science is settled." At the recent G8 summit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel even attempted to convince world leaders to play God by restricting carbon-dioxide emissions to a level that would magically limit the rise in world temperatures to 2C.

...

I caught this article yesterday and it made me chuckle. The author is no hack, he is a reputable prof and knows what he's talking about. Just further proof that some science is always in flux.

I guess time will tell.

Anyone noticed that the solar graph in the article looks a bit like a hockey stick (for the last 1000 years)?

Are skeptics going to complain that it has missed out the medieval warm period?

Probably the biggest challenge for a solar cause for recent warming is that sunspot numbers have not increased since 1950, despite if they are at a general 8000 year high. It would be quite useful if nature would make the next few solar cycles very low so that the solar connection can be tested more. If solar and co2 goes up then it's a bit difficult to know how much warming each is providing.

First Snow in Johannesburg and Pretoria Since 1981 and 1968
Posted by Noel Sheppard on June 27, 2007 - 23:10.
As the worm has clearly turned on all this global warming hooey, it seems appropriate to begin recording COLD events across the planet not just to highlight the foolishness, but also to infuriate those still buying into the junk science.

With that in mind, it snowed in parts of South Africa Tuesday that haven’t seen the frosty white stuff in many decades.

Thanks, global warming!

As deliciously (and frigidly) reported by Bloomberg Wednesday (emphasis added to really irk the alarmists):

Johannesburg recorded its first confirmed snowfall for almost 26 years overnight as temperatures dropped below freezing in South Africa's largest city, grounding flights at its main airport...Snow last blanketed Johannesburg for a single day on Sept. 11, 1981.

Light snowfall was also recorded in Pretoria, the capital, which last had snow on June 11, 1968, the newswire said.

June 1968! Most of the hyperventilating hysterical probably weren't born yet!

Glaciers Growing in France, Switzerland, and Washington: Will Media Care?
Posted by Noel Sheppard on June 28, 2007 - 10:46.
One of the pet peeves of anthropogenic global warming skeptics is how the media and climate change alarmists like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore only address events supporting that which they conflate and abuse data to prove.

A perfect example is the discussion concerning receding glaciers, as these folks will either ignore when such recession began, or the other possible environmental issues that many scientists believe to be responsible.

Maybe even worse, the media alarmists will always ignore information that might throw a monkey wrench into the position they’re trying to advance.

With that in mind, it seems a metaphysical certitude American press outlets will ignore reports of glacial expansion around the globe, most hypocritically as one such growing ice mass is actually right here in the U.S. as reported by Washington’s News Tribune

Crater Glacier is like no other glacier in the world. It’s the only glacier with lava extruding through it and forming a dome. And while most glaciers are receding, Crater Glacier is advancing three feet per day and forming a collar around the growing dome.

A glacier that’s growing? How can that be? According to Al Gore and the supposed consensus of scientists claiming the global warming debate to be over, glaciers everywhere are receding.

The point is not all scientists agree on global warming. But whats in a name, we should do all we can to take care of the earth, oh sorry i was too political :p

When Al Gore uses pictures of melting glaciers to illustrate "proof" for "global warming", it's hard to take him seriously in the future when he tries to shift his opinion.

what baffles me is, the u.n. says and i quote using farms to raise cattle for the consumption of humans meaning meat, causes more green houses gasses then anything combined. Al Gore sounds like a moron, or a liar.

When Al Gore uses pictures of melting glaciers to illustrate "proof" for "global warming", it's hard to take him seriously in the future when he tries to shift his opinion.

All the articles i Post have this in common.

A November 2006 United Nations report revealed that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined. Senior U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) official Henning Steinfeld said that the meat industry is “one of the most significant contributors to today’s most serious environmental problems

However, It seems I came across another point of view, that says the u.n. is full of something, I came across this by accident, but since i did, Ill let you decide for yourself, who is right.

I could only find this one link, and for the sake of being fair I put it up there, without my opinion, so you can judge for yourself.

What do you think?

oh and these two links are very interesting if you care about the technical side of global warming.

They are way over my head.

and to be clear, in my humble opinion, any researchers or anyone doing a documentary, their job is to present the truth, even if it goes against their agenda, meaning what they hope to find. Half truths are not good enough. The whole truth and nothing but the truth or dont bother :)>

Alarmist global warming claims melt under scientific scrutiny

June 30, 2007
BY JAMES M. TAYLOR
In his new book, The Assault on Reason, Al Gore pleads, "We must stop tolerating the rejection and distortion of science. We must insist on an end to the cynical use of pseudo-studies known to be false for the purpose of intentionally clouding the public's ability to discern the truth." Gore repeatedly asks that science and reason displace cynical political posturing as the central focus of public discourse.
If Gore really means what he writes, he has an opportunity to make a difference by leading by example on the issue of global warming.

A cooperative and productive discussion of global warming must be open and honest regarding the science. Global warming threats ought to be studied and mitigated, and they should not be deliberately exaggerated as a means of building support for a desired political position.

Many of the assertions Gore makes in his movie, ''An Inconvenient Truth,'' have been refuted by science, both before and after he made them. Gore can show sincerity in his plea for scientific honesty by publicly acknowledging where science has rebutted his claims.

For example, Gore claims that Himalayan glaciers are shrinking and global warming is to blame. Yet the September 2006 issue of the American Meteorological Society's Journal of Climate reported, "Glaciers are growing in the Himalayan Mountains, confounding global warming alarmists who recently claimed the glaciers were shrinking and that global warming was to blame."

Gore claims the snowcap atop Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro is shrinking and that global warming is to blame. Yet according to the November 23, 2003, issue of Nature magazine, "Although it's tempting to blame the ice loss on global warming, researchers think that deforestation of the mountain's foothills is the more likely culprit. Without the forests' humidity, previously moisture-laden winds blew dry. No longer replenished with water, the ice is evaporating in the strong equatorial sunshine."

More from Al Bore - our Earth is in danger?????

Moving Beyond Kyoto

WE — the human species — have arrived at a moment of decision. It is unprecedented and even laughable for us to imagine that we could actually make a conscious choice as a species, but that is nevertheless the challenge that is before us.

Our home — Earth — is in danger. What is at risk of being destroyed is not the planet itself, but the conditions that have made it hospitable for human beings.

Without realizing the consequences of our actions, we have begun to put so much carbon dioxide into the thin shell of air surrounding our world that we have literally changed the heat balance between Earth and the Sun. If we don’t stop doing this pretty quickly, the average temperature will increase to levels humans have never known and put an end to the favorable climate balance on which our civilization depends.

In the last 150 years, in an accelerating frenzy, we have been removing increasing quantities of carbon from the ground — mainly in the form of coal and oil — and burning it in ways that dump 70 million tons of CO2 every 24 hours into the Earth’s atmosphere.

The concentrations of CO2 — having never risen above 300 parts per million for at least a million years — have been driven from 280 parts per million at the beginning of the coal boom to 383 parts per million this year.

Except that quote doesn't come from the Journal of Climate at all. It comes from an internet article here:

Check out the author of the article.

I wonder if one of Gores' Lies involved quoting himself but attributing it to a scientific journal.

It is funny how the liberasl media gives glowing coverage to a deranged lib like Al Bore
