If a substantial number of districts are designed to be polarized, then those districts representation will also act in a heavily partisan manner, which can create and perpetuate partisan gridlock. This in turn can have a deleterious effect on the principle of democratic accountability. Essentially we are talking about gerrymandering. If one political party designs it to their advantage, they can negate the votes of many, even to the point of changing election results.

It's wrong no matter who does it. 8 US states have independent agencies that do their redistricting. Gerrymandering is getting so bad and so precise, all states should follow suit and in these crimes against the people.

agreed. i don't like either side "gaming the system" - but in this case, it *is* the system. so either put rules in place to stop it, or stop whining when it's done. it's either allowed or it isn't. not for one side, not for the other.

US law and the supreme Court have said gerrymandering is illegal. Therefore, the federal government should take action on this and end it all by saying every state needs to have independent review boards to set up their election districts. The federal government can rule on things that are illegal, and affecting most of the states and commonwealths.

I did some more research, although Republicans did more gerrymandering ( especially since trump arrived on the scene ) than Democrats, the Democrats gerrymandering was more effective. That may change now, trump has his hands into everything illegal.
