Ohio bill: Takes more precautions to prevent election fraud. Democrats very upset.

Be careful what you wish for.

Elimination of mail-in voting would mostly burden rural folks who typically vote Republican. Especially in the western states with their vast expanses.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WJW) – From photo ID requirements to rule changes for absentee ballots, the Ohio state legislature is considering changes to Ohio’s voting laws.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers say the changes proposed by Republican lawmakers are unnecessary and designed to suppress votes. Democrats call the proposed legislation the “anti-voter bill.”

“The concerns that we and other voting rights advocates have always had with photo ID is that it can be extremely difficult, particularly the address requirements for students, college students, for young adults for individuals who may have to move frequently,” said state representative Allison Russo D-District 24.

The bill would require voters to request an absentee ballot seven days before the election, instead of the current three, but would allow Ohioans to request a ballot online.

“The former bill said we had to make that deadline 10 days. Now we’re going to make it seven days. I think that still cuts it awful close,” said Seitz.

“Republicans are just now trying to jam House Bill 294 through, hoping no one would notice it. We’re making sure that people notice,” said Rep. Brown.

It would limit the number of drop boxes to one per county, with 24-hour surveillance and require voters to show photo ID, which state representative Seitz addressed in a hearing last month.

The updated version of House Bill 294, that the state senate is reviewing, would require mail-in ballots to arrive by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

“If their bill gets over here and we pass it, there will no longer be any need for people to use a utility statement, bank statement, etc. because we will be issuing a free photo ID to anybody that wants one, who doesn’t have a driver’s license,” said state representative Bill Seitz R-District 30 in November.

Ow that hurts. Free photo ID so Democrats can't use that worn out excuse that some can't afford an ID. Drivers licenses still allowed as an acceptable form of ID to vote. One drop box per county under surveillance, and your absentee ballot must be there by election day, no later.

Well there you go Democrats. States have the right to set forth their own election rules and regulations. While commie states are taking measures to expand the possibility of voter fraud, we in Ohio are reducing those possibilities which means you will have less chance at winning Ohio if this bill passes.
lol

A bill in search of a problem that doesn't exist.

either one wants to vote or one doesn't. if one can't make an effort for their own country, then they shouldn't vote.

Of course it doesn't exist. American people are just so stupid they decided to elect a guy that was going to attack our energy making it unaffordable, increase grocery prices, record high inflation, much higher interest rates, a huge border problem, give freaks and weirdos the power over the majority. Yeah, that's what they wanted when they voted.

I could care less what some RINO thought. People out in the rural do fine without city conveniences. They figure out how to get to a Walmart's 50 miles away, groceries, get to an airport if needed, live fine without cable or internet. If they want to vote, they have always figured out a way to do that too.

The welfare types in the cities wouldn't vote by the tens of thousands without mail-in. If they're too lazy to get a job, they sure as hell won't go out of their way to vote. That's what really scares Democrats. And if Democrats thought mail-in would be a problem for Republican voters out in the sticks, they wouldn't have it in their states. But they know mail-in will draw the stupidest and most politically ignorant to vote and they will most always vote Democrat.

Maybe they're on to something. IMO we are looking at the final days of this country; the end of the great experiment. It's a shame we let it happen but that's what we get for not enough people paying attention to what's going on. If the commies can get the amnesty bill passed, it will mean a single-party government forever. Socialism will just be a passing era on the way to a total Communist state.

Did Ohio have a problem with voter fraud under the existing rules and law?

Sure, in the past we have had cheats like any other state. But our Republican led state is taking steps to reduce those possibilities in the future unlike the commie states that make it easier. After all, the only time you know about fraud is when somebody gets caught. How many commit voter fraud and never get caught? It's all about prevention.

It took several weeks for me to get an absentee ballot, fill it out, and return it when I was on active duty.

This is an obvious ploy by the Republicans to make it harder to vote.

As for Voter ID, I have been on this forum since 2011, and no one has ever been able to show me an example of actual voter fraud which could have been stopped by Voter ID.

Voter ID is a hoax. It's theater for the rubes.

If it doesn't stop fraud, then it very obviously is intended to serve another purpose.

How long before the election did you realize that you needed or wanted an absentee ballot? Elections only happen every two years. That gives anyone plenty of time of get proper ID and set up an absentee ballot if they need one. When I was on active duty, the chain of command started pushing every soldier who was a non-resident of where the base was to get an absentee ballot a year before the election. Every company had an officer assigned to assist enlisted people in getting absentee ballots so their votes would be heard.
