Healthcare overhaul won't stop premium increases - latimes.com

Two interesting things from this story:

"some major companies already moving to boost premiums and others poised to follow suit, millions of Americans may feel an unexpected jolt in the pocketbook."

"outrage over double-digit rate hikes for health insurance may have helped push President Obama's healthcare overhaul across the finish line, but the new law does not give regulators the power to block similar increases in the future."

Just like we thought... higher premiums. Looks like those that put trust in Obama have been fooled again.

Idiotic leeches.

health care overhaul is needed in the us....more is needed than what is being done....where to start...the ama....the policing organization of doctors...which does not do its job. stop allowing doctors and insurance companies to hide suits that are settled out of court....stay removing licenses of doctors who do nothing but deal drugs...the pain clinics in florida should be shut down...there are major areas of abuse in the current medical system that need to be addressed. i do not know if this will do that..but i do know that reform is long overdue. anyone who has worked in a medical enviroment knows the influence of drug company salesmen....there is nothing in a doctors office.....paper, magnets etc..that dont have some drug company's name on them. one big thing in canada is the government negoiates with drug companies for bulk buying..not done in this country. why...well i wonder how much money drug and insurance companies donate to politicians...its always the simple and complex answer....follow the money

The sales reps that I've audited have told me that the promotional crap giving has stopped. Lots of layoffs in the pharma sales rep area with the unlikelihood that those jobs will ever come back.

Your so right.

There is no real reform in this bill. Its just a way for Barry to be a part of a "Historic Moment".

This is just the first act. A foot in the door toward the total takeover of HC by our wonderful, inept Govt.

Before you know it, it will be mountains of federal paperwork. Panels and "someone" deciding who gets treated for what or if they can be treated at all. Just like Europe.

Oh Goody. Just think We will all be part of that "Historic" moment.

Can hardly wait.

giving cover to pre existing conditions is reform.....

unfortunately not fast enough or nearly enough....and if one does not look into the ama and the lack of policing ...then what good is any of this....doctors are not held accountable....you hear about their mal practice insurance costs blah blah blah..what you dont hear about is the ability of doctors to hide suits...insurance companies settle suits and keep them from going public...the ama does nothing....nada...look at oxxies in florida pain clinics....

i have seen figures saying florida writes 80 % of the scripts for oxxies...so basically florida has become the drug dealing state...why is that allowed by the ama or for that matter the fda?

Some facts about prescription drug availability in Florida:

•There are 89 pain medication clinics in Broward County, Florida
•According to a series of reports in the Miami Herald, some pain clinics in Florida are owned by ex-convicts
•Florida doctors prescribed OxyContin at five times the national average
•The top 50 OxyContin prescribing doctors in the United States all practice medicine in Florida
•An 80mg OxyContin pill that is bought for less than $5 in Florida can be sold at the street level in Tennessee for $80.

Newsvine - Florida Doctors Prescribe OxyContin at 5 Times the National Average - Bordering States Feel the Pain

now what does all this have to do with obamacare...nothing ...its merely one of the many reasons that health care costs were already rising before obamacare and will continue to rise....you have to look at all the things that impact medical care...not just the issue du jour

now is there a reason the fda doesnt shut these clinics down??? sure is....money....just plain ass money....pain clinics are raking it in..plus you do have people who need these drugs...they are being hurt too by the unethical doctors...

ask yourself this...would you want a cap on suits if a doctor has killed, maimed your loved one...and you found out that the doctor had a history that has/had been covered up by the insurance, doctor and hospital? would you feel you had been fairly treated?

Actually, it has been the end game all along.

The "reform" bill drives the expense of insurance through the roof...Socialist hand-wringers snivel and mewl about "obscene profits"...Then, the socialists say "well, we tried to make this work" right before they seize control of the whole system.

Seems like that is the plan of the republicans and a handful of democrats who supported NO competition via nonprofit coop/public option Dude....:eusa_whistle:

Without an option to choose some company other than the for profit Insurance...we are screwed, but I said that when they still had the opportunity to have an alternative option....and you ALL were against it.....now you got what you and others against the Public OPTION wished for.....imo....which is less competitive....than it needs to be, in order to control costs...again, in my opinion.

and the stupid mandate makes this easily had by the insurance companies.....i agree on that!

Calling a gubmint monopoly an "option" is the height of duplicity and cynicism.

Without an option to purchase an isnurance policy from a company in Texas when you live in Oregon, defacto in-state monopolies are created and costs will naturally rise while service falls.

Besides that, where is it written that congress has the authority to attepmt to control the costs of any product for anyone?

if obamacare is damaging health insurance companies..why this:

Health-care stocks led the stock market higher Monday after the U.S. House Sunday approved a historic health-care overhaul designed to bring health insurance to 32 million more Americas while subjecting U.S. industries to a dramatically redrawn and newly regulated marketplace

The Dow’s pharmaceutical components strengthened, as drug makers are expected to profit from the expansion of health-care coverage. Merck rose 2.3%, while Pfizer climbed 1.5%.

Hospital operator Tenet Healthcare rose 6.1%, while insurer Cigna gained 1.9% and Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefit manager, rose 2.1%. Pharmaceutical companies also climbed, with Eli Lilly up 1.3% and Bristol-Myers Squibb up 0.6%.

You are talking emotional damage which has no monetary value. Personally, no one in my family is worth more than a million dollars economic value-wise. Capping settlements has two benefits. At a million dollars many insurance companies will just pay the settlement. This way the family has much needed money without the emotional trama of a trial.

That is only part of the equation on this point however, I think stronger regualtion over who can practice medicine and who can't is needed.

That kind of thinking is part of the problem in my opinion.

YOU just let the rotten doctors keep on practicing by settling out of court and keeping the public from knowing who the SHITTY doctors are....3 malpractice suits lost in court, should make the doctors lose their licence or have to go through some medical retraining imo.....not be left out there to harm again and again and again and again and again

it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL for the federal government to cap lawsuits in all the states, this is an individual state issue, UNLESS YOU BELIEVE IN BIG GOVERNMENT.

Did you miss the part about regulating to get rid of the bad doctors in my post? Trust me, the lower amounts will mean faster payouts to the family AND less work for lawyers who leach off these claims. I could care less if the federal or state government makes the rules. So, yes, by all means, let the states do it and be Constitutional.

If I'm making too much sense here, I can slow down.

Ah yes, the classic "if only health insurance were more like credit cards" argument.

The Republican drug bill money give-a-way cost the country "trillions" and they want to complain about Obama? Go figure.

Chimpola stole Medicare D, lock stock and barrel, from the democratics.

The only reason blindly partisan leftist lemming dickweeds, like you, are mad about the whole thing is because a president with an (R) by his name signed off on the bill.

Go figure.
