Please, do tell, Mr.President. How many of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence regularly attended a Mosque?

(CNSNews.com) – We hear a lot about the United States’ Judeo-Christian heritage, but according to President Obama, “Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding.”

That’s what the president told a White House conference on “countering violent extremism” on Wednesday.

Obama has said similar things in the past:

I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story,” Obama said in a June 2009 speech in Cairo, Egypt. “Islam has always been part of America,” he said in a 2010 statement marking the start of Ramadan. And in a 2014 statement marking Eid, Obama said the holiday “also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy.”

I must admit that the left wing are some incredible mental gymnasts. First the left screams separation then says that religion is woven into the fabric of America. Quite interesting bit of mental gymnastics.

If the above anti-Muslim folks are the general extent of their ilk's opposition to American ideals, then no one they dislike have any reason to fear from the nativists and racialists.

take a walk down a street in Dearborn Michigan with a cross around your neck and a Bible in your hand and you will learn about muslim assimilation into american culture.

you will think you are walking through Tehran.

you don't know what you are talking about, as usual.

and for the record, muslim and arab are NOT races, moron.

They are ethnicities that the raciialists and some far right radical American Christians.

Doesn't matter because we don't interpret it like you. They can be Muslims here and they can reject your demand to assimilate as if they were Baptists. That is not what the Constitution is about. Your far right ignorant are not going to make America accept your nativism. Doesn't work like that.

The true Americans and clear thinkers have always believed (1) the right to religion and (2) and separation of church and state have always been key stones of the 1st Amendment.

Islam was woven into the fabric of this country when the Founders wrote and passed the 1st Amendment,

as were all religions.

Do you think that's all he meant ?

When I hear him make a statement like this, to me it sounds as if he's attempting to claim that Islam is a cornerstone of our founding. Which of course it is not. It plays zero of a role compared to Christianity.

They, like any other religion, were merely guaranteed to the right to practice their own religion. That is something this country did for them, not the other way around.

"Cornerstones" ?
Anyway, yes that's all true, but it doesn't change the fact that Obama's words are full of shit.

Anthony Janszoon van Salee (1607–1676) was the son of Jan Janszoon, a Dutch pirate who led the Republic of Salé, a pirate state in modern Morocco. He was an original settler of and prominent landholder, merchant, and creditor in New Netherlands. Van Salee may have been the first Muslim in the New World.

He had four daughters with Reyniers who married into respectable colonial commercial families:[

Annica, who married Thomas Southard. Annica and Thomas's daughter Abigail was the great-great-grandmother of Cornelius Vanderbilt

When Columbus made his journey to the United States, it is said he took with him a book written by Portuguese Muslims who had navigated their way to the New World in the 12th century.

Others claim there were Muslims, most notably a man named Istafan, who accompanied the Spanish as a guide to the New World in the early 16th century in their conquest of what would become Arizona and New Mexico.

What is clear is the make up of the first real wave of Muslims in the United States: African slaves of whom 10 to 15 percent were said to be Muslims. Maintaining their religion was difficult and many were forcibly converted to Christianity. Any effort to practice Islam, and keep the traditional clothing and names alive had to be done in secret. There was an enclave of African-Americans on the Georgia coast that managed to maintain their faith until the early part of the 20th century.

Between 1878 and 1924, Muslim immigrants from the Middle East, particularly from Syria and Lebanon, arrived in large numbers, with many settling in Ohio, Michigan, Iowa and even the Dakotas. Like most other migrants they were seeking greater economic opportunity than in their homeland and often worked as manual laborers. One of the first big employers of Muslims and blacks was the Ford Company—these were often the only people willing to work in the hot, difficult conditions of the factories.

At the same time, the Great Migration of blacks to the North helped encourage the African-American Islam revival and the growth of the African-American Muslim Nationalist Movement that still exists to this day.

[He] sais “neither Pagan nor Mahamedan [Muslim] nor Jew ought to be excluded from the civil rights of the Commonwealth because of his religion.”
 — Thomas Jefferson, quoting John Locke, 1776

At a time when most Americans were uninformed, misinformed, or simply afraid of Islam, Thomas Jefferson imagined Muslims as future citizens of his new nation. His engagement with the faith began with the purchase of a Qur’an eleven years before he wrote the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson’s Qur’an survives still in the Library of Congress, serving as a symbol of his and early America’s complex relationship with Islam and its adherents. That relationship remains of signal importance to this day.

you are full of shit.

if you did as I suggested you would be attacked, spit on, beat up, robbed, and maybe killed. Many muslims in muslim enclaves like Dearborn have not assimilated and refuse to assimilate.

they don't have to become baptists or methodists or catholics, BUT they damn well better be tolerant of baptists, methodists, and catholics. But they aren't.

You are not living in the real world, you live in some parallel universe of liberal utopian bullshit.

yes, thats true. and giving special treatment to muslims as obama is doing is a violation of the constitution.

NO ONE has said they muslims cannot practice their religion in this country. NO ONE.

But, in so doing they have to obey the laws of the USA. like laws against beating women, mutilating female genitalia, rape, sex with children, honor killings-------i.e. things that are legal in muslim countries but not in the usa.
