The University of Notre Dame had been considered America's most iconic Catholic university, offering students a breadth of enriching academics and athletics celebrated nationally. However, Notre Dame's campus was suddenly troubled by the story of a recent string of crimes, bank robberies.
It was Halloween at Notre Dame, an eccentric campus security officer and detective named Reynolds was assigned to solve this crime-story of the bank robbery bandit who was stealing from the campus Federal Credit Union building repeatedly and successfully and elusively, and now over 5 times. Reynolds was dressed as Ichabod Crane for the Halloween season, from the iconic Washington Irving story of the ominous Headless Horseman at Sleepy Hollow. Reynolds was resolved to bring sanity back to the Notre Dame campus.
Reynolds recruited his niece Penny who was also a Notre Dame student to help him crack the case of this elusive serial robber. Penny had the hunch that the bank robbery must be either a current Notre Dame grad-student or young assistant professor or TA, since the robberies were both slick and ingenious. They were characterized by agility and quickness and required a bright young mind. Penny began interrogating the male grad students and young assistant profs and TAs at Notre Dame. She was invaluable to Detective Reynolds.
REYNOLDS/PENNY: "We believe the intent to continuously perform heists of the Federal Credit Union building near the Notre Dame campus represents a modern intelligence and willingness to subvert basic campus securities in the name of absolute mischief."
The robber sent the Notre Dame Gazette an anonymous note which read, "Bank robbery is as much fun as murder."
Reynolds and Penny continued their diligent investigation on the Notre Dame campus as Halloween approached steadily.
Were it not for these terrible crimes at Notre Dame, the celebrated college football team, the Fightin' Irish, would've been poised to hype their season as a great post-Coronavirus toast. However, the students and athletes and coaches and faculty were suddenly plagued by this eerie crime-story and found it challenging to focus on football!
UNIVERSITY DEAN: "We're confident the security officers will crack the case of the bank robberies, especially now that a new crime-story has surfaced about the murder of young female professors on campus!"
You heard it right, folks. There was now a new crime-story on the campus of Notre Dame. This one involved the murder of multiple young bright female professors at Notre Dame. Detective Reynolds and his niece Penny were theorizing that the bank robberies and these new murders were somehow eerily but certainly connected in some diabolical fashion.
When a young female professor at Notre Dame called Reynolds/Penny and informed them that she may be stalked or followed by some stranger, Reynolds/Penny began wondering if this murderer of female professors wanted to make some deranged statement about distracting the bank robbery investigation with these murder reports. Penny still held fast to the possibility that the bank robber himself may have been responsible for the murders themselves. This new young female professor who told Reynolds/Penny that she may be stalked or followed by a stranger was Dr. Evelyn Rogers, and she insisted there'd be no rest on campus until her campus apartment was watched and monitored by campus security and police!
REYNOLDS/PENNY: "We haven't determined any link between the bank robberies and the murders but remain confident that these string of unrelated crimes on the Notre Dame campus surely signal some new dystopian design on college campuses across America."
