Opinion: Tom Hanks Is A Non-Racist. It's Time For Him To Be Anti-Racist
TV critic Eric Deggans says the Oscar-winning actor whose career has been rooted in films based on U.S. history needs to take responsibility for helping dismantle the notion of white exceptionalism.

Tom Hanks, while giving every appearance of being a normal human being - indeed, that's what has fueled his incredible film career - is not sufficiently indoctrinated into the "anti-racist" cult, and has allowed himself to be be cast in productions where he, portraying a "white" man, comports himself pretty well, but fails to insist that some Black content be injected into these "historical" stories that had no Black element.
"If he really wants to make a difference, Hanks and other stars need to talk specifically about how their work has contributed to these problems and how they will change. They need to make specific commitments to changing the conversation in story subjects, casting and execution. That is the truly hard work of building change."
The mindset is perverse, illogical, and I would say, insidious. Reality is what it is. There is a whole world of "white" history that had nothing to do with Black people, women, indigenous people, or the sexually irregular. "...changing the conversation..." is bullshit. Lies are lies, and altering "historical fiction' - bad enough already - to create a pretense of the involvement of those who were not involved is a lie. There were no Blacks in the meat of the Manhattan Project. Sorry. Didn't happen. Deal with it.
There is room in the entertainment world to write and produce artistic "historical" content that highlights the lives, accomplishments, and heroics of Black people, but why is it now necessary to elevate Black contributions beyond any rational level.
If this is what Black "leadership" is demanding, then they can go have sexual intercourse with themselves.
