You have to admit they were sharp dressers.

That is not really fair because those are war time associations, not leftist's ones.
One could also argue that Roosevelt was not really leftist, but a member and representative of the wealthy elite, much like Johnson.
Jefferson is a better example of the leftist ideology, which was about individual liberties an anti-federalist.
The only time leftists want federal involvement is when large corporations get too big for states to counter.

Um, yes. Half the people imprisoned in the US are from the illegal War on Drugs.
The other half are due to racism, injustice, discrimination, lack of job opportunities, lack of education opportunities, etc.

The baby rapists and cannibal serial killers are put in metal facilities, not prisons.

No one is born a criminal. We create them.

Consider the terms of left and right in the 21st Century. The former are for the people, the latter support the wannabe king.

Criminal Justice Systems (CJS) and defendants convicted by the triers of facts are political too. The demographics in jails and prisons are disproportionate to the entire population of our country.

The solution is not simple and not to be mocked. The war on poverty, the war on drugs and the war on public schools were good ideas, and possibly less costly then incarceration and much less damaging to the inmates.

Baby rapists, serial killers and mass murderers are evil, and those who don't kill themselves, IMO, ought to be put in prison for life. Armed Robbery, Rape, in fact all crimes where physical harm impacts their victims deserve to be incarcerated for life, with the possibility of parole for life.

Drilling down on the issue of the CJS in the United States is complicated, and the implications of punishment has come a long way from physical torture and vigilantism.
