They suggest that about 85 per cent of trusts have now adopted the regime, which can involve the removal of hydration and nutrition from dying patients.

when costs go up (and they are) companies are going to drop heathcare coverage and pay the fine.......(or get an Obama exemption like many union groups already have)

Great Britain represents all that is good and bad with centralized, single-payer health care systems. Health care spending is fairly low (7.5% of GDP) and very equitable. Long wait lists for treatment, however are endemic and rationing pervades the system. Patients have little choice of provider and little access to specialists.

Percent Insured. ~100%

Funding. Great Britain has a single payer system funded by general revenues. With any centralized system, avoiding deficits is difficult. In 2006, Great Britain had a £700 million deficit despite the fact that health care spending increased by £43 billion over five years.

Private Insurance. 10% of Britons have private health insurance. Private health insurance replicates the coverage provided by the NHS, but gives patients access to higher quality care, and reduced waiting times.

Copayment/Deductibles. There are no deductibles and almost no copayments except for small copayments for prescription drugs, as well as for optical and dental care.

Waiting Times. Waiting lists are a huge problem in Great Britain. Some examples: 750,000 are on waiting lists for hospital admission; 40% of cancer patients are never able to see an oncologist; there is explicit rationing for services such as kidney dialysis, open heart surgery and care for the terminally ill. Further, minimum waiting times have been instituted to reduce costs. “A top-flight hospital like Suffolk Est PCT was ordered to impose a minimum waiting time of at least 122 days before patients could be treated or the hospital would lose a portion of its funding.”

Benefits Covered. The NHS system offers comprehensive coverage. Because of rationing, care might not be as easy to get as advertised. Terminally ill patients may be denied treatment. David Cameron has proposed that the NHS refuse treatment to smokers or the obese.

FLASH NEWS; My wife just informed me that our health insurance will increase in cost for next year $360.00.

Obama care was not mentioned as a driver of the increase. More sick and unhelathy people were mentioned as the reason. The company is now on a big drive to get the employees healthier in an effort to reduce the numbers of people needing medical care.

Gee. Who would I thunk it. Stay healthy. Cut down on obeseity, diabetes, heart disease etc etc.

This company is now requesting certain screening tests in exchange for lower premimums.
I have refused so far.

But to answer who wants guvt medical care. I know two men right now that would be willing to take commie run medical welfare if they could get the surgeries they need to not be in pain and able to work again.

I just completed the form one guy needed in his application for Medicaid. I don't know. maybe some of you think that good people who want to do right should suffer with pain and injury that could be fixed, simply because they don't have a way to pay for a surgery.

I don't.

Or I had a tenant that let his diabetes put him in a diabetic coma because he didn't have a way to pay for basic medical care for his condition. Instead he got 3 days in emergency intensive care. The most expenisve care there is and this guy can't pay for it.


Those of us with insurance get to pay his bill when insurance companies pass the costs on to the rest of us for the "free" health care they gave my tenant. Bull shit.


If everybody should pay the same tax rate (the idea repubs like so well), then everybody should have to pay something for the costs of heathcare. And everybody needs health care.

imo our whole health system is mucked up because there are too many middlemen getting between the provider (the doctor) and the consumer (the patient)......employers, insurance companies, State governments, Federal government, Socialists, Big Pharma....etc.

if people bought their healthcare directly and there was transparency.....costs would come way down in a free market.....instead of buying insurance for everyday medicine the only coverage that would be sensible to buy would be a policy for major medical....and the cost of that would drop as well...
