There is some nefarious scheme at work here. Since they can't convince Americans to like soccer, they're just going to fuck with football until it becomes soccer.

There are some decent reasons to do away with kickoffs.

The players have gotten bigger and faster over the years, by a serious margin. On the kickoff, unlike plays from scrimmage, the players have a long running start to build up speed before impacting another player. There are some serious potential injuries associated with that, and some people think just starting from the 25 yardline would save those injuries.

I think it's crap, but there is a basis for the idea.

That would be great if we were talking about flaccid little soccer players, or rugby players who are half the size of NFL players and maybe go at 10% the speed and power of that found in an NFL game, but this is FOOTBALL we're talking about.
