No, every vet should not get free healthcare

The diciest part of Trump's promise is in his commitment to "every veteran." The VA gives priority to soldiers whose health problems stem directly from their military service, and it has a hierarchy of priority groups. At the very bottom of the list, there are no slots for financially well-off veterans with no service-related claim.

Updated - Trump-O-Meter: Increase veterans' health care

The way it should be, if not wounded during fighting or active duty in a wartime, get your own health insurance.
If you don't work for a company with shared ins, get on the ACA,

oh wait Trump scrapped that. Unless you got wounded in the line of duty, no free health care for you.
I thought you were for free HC for all. What's up?

No I am all for people paying according to their income. Also I have no issue with someone disabled during active military duty, to get acute care, but after that its either disability like everyone gets if they are able to work pay a percentage of healthcare, and when a senior get Medicare.
That is not very progressive of you.

IMHO we have no choice now...we need to institute nationalized HC. Medicare for all, of sorts. The Big HC, Big Pharma, and Big Government have so effectively messed things up, that drastic measures are required.

We have BY FAR, the most expensive HC system in the world and it is not effective...it is designed to enrich the wealthy at the detriment of the people.

At 43rd in life expectancy, we clearly need to do something.

Dying younger: U.S. life expectancy 'a real problem'
The United States ranked 43rd out of 224 countries for life expectancy in the CIA World Factbook 2015. Leading the pack by far was Monaco, with an estimated life expectancy of 89.5 years. Japan, Singapore, Macau and San Marino rounded out the top five. Most of Western Europe also ranked ahead of the U.S.

Why have you resorted to the VA healthcare?
#1) I travel a lot and and use the VA because it's data base for my medical records is nation wide. Thus any VA doctor anywhere can access my medical records. Whereas, civilian hospitals usually only have an in house intranet data base that is only shared with their affiliate hospitals.

#2) My prescriptions only cost me $8 bucks through the VA

btw I have Medicare but haven't used it or needed it. ...

New Poll Uncovers What Veterans Really Think About the VA[November 13, 2015]
American Federation of Government Employees.......... What'd they do poll the 5 star VA Centers only?
Don't take that the wrong way, Just take what they report with a block of salt, they are self serving......... My care has been fairly good here in Albuquerque as it was when we lived in El Paso, TX but I would use non VA medical services if I could afford it and a lot of vets say the same thing. Not so much because the VA is bad but due to the wait periods primarily to see a specialist let alone get in for one's first visit. Granted it's not the VA's fault for the delays/wait times, there's a shortage of primary care providers nation wide and that's going to cause delays in being able to see a care giver.
Also the VA has improved quite a bit and would most likely improve much more if all presidents and all congresses stopped using it as a political football (hence responsible most of the problems the VA suffers from).

You do not sound disabled from active duty, yet you get free healthcare. That is what expanded Medicaid, Medicare or the ACA was for. We can not give free healthcare to vets for their lifetime.
No, the disability is not service related and my Medicare is not totally free and neither is my VA. As usual you are clueless.

I may be mistaken but didn't Bill Clinton add a couple extra classes (7 and 8) to the VA back in the 90's to encompass all vets and the use of VA facilities? Then George Bush came a long and took away 8. The last class was for any vet regardless where, when and without a disability.

I know how much Medicare is and also gap ins and scipts. So what do you pay for the VA, does that pick up your 20% and cover your meds.

Your right , I agree. We also have the highest postpartum death rate of all the developed nations. Health starts when you are born and healthy people have healthy babies, usually. It has to be based on your income, or you are going to need to raise the higher tax bracket, oh I forgot they just lowered them and took away the lowest tax bracket.

My gosh how stupid of me.

Not sure what your problem is, but knock it off. ... :mad-61:

I didn't go into the Army for the VA benefits. In fact, back then I didn't even know they existed.

It's a benefit extended to me by the government. I never asked for it. But since it's available, I'll use it.

If you don't agree with VA policy, then contact your congressman or get off your butt, make a sign, and protest against it. ....

I qualified as class 7. If I hadn't I would've ended up dead or in jail. I'm bi-polar.

I have Medicare and Tri-Care and I utilize civilian doctors and hospitals for care and I don't pay a cent for the care or medicine. Last summer I had over $95 thousand hospital bill to include 5 weeks of rehab, no charge. I have 100% VA disability so I use VA doctors for diagnosis and have procedures done at civilian hospitals. VA isn't cost free for vets until they reach a certain disability rating. Starting at 0% disability, vets pay certain rates for care and medicine and the charges decrease as they are given higher disability percentage rating. Veterans deserve care for they have earned it and I would like to see it eventually become cost free.

Were you disabled in active duty??
Of course. Combat related, the VA says.

Can't find who or if it was Clinton who put a couple of classifications of 7 and 8 but at one time Bush wanted to get rid of 8 and may have for a period and then I believe Obama put it back in. At the bottom of this link they're referred to as groups but they are the 8 classifications. lol forgot the link.

I explained it to her in my first message but she gets the red ass because every vet is not combat wounded and on life support. Bet she doesn't raise hell at welfare and free shit recipients.

Yeah, I know and forget the fact that pretty much every person in the military and pretty much every vet could be/have been deployed in a combat arena...... Hell I had orders for the Nam when Nixon started the draw down and my orders were changed.

Yes I know, 20 years is a career in the military. Even then get your own, I also think the congressman should get their own, also state workers and city workers. Now if you work for a company and they foot the bill, fine.
