NM governor says grandparents came to US illegally

So???? Many grandparents came to the U.S. illegally - and??? That was then, now is now. Stop comparing apples to oranges. This is the 21st century and this country does NOT need as many immigrants as it did then - legal or illegal.

Many back then said we did not need them too.

It is all about us in the here and now....

We learn almost nothing from the past...

No maybe about it. Immigrants, legal and otherwise, have always been demonized.

To all of those that are expecting some master partisan point to this...

Sorry to disappoint but it was really just informational, if someone wants to add to it be my guest.

The point is that back then we DID need them and now we don't. It does not matter that many thought we did not when in reality we did! But - at the present time this country does NOT need them - even if some say we DO. Of course it's about the here and now. The country is strapped economically and we don't need more poor people coming in to feed off the resources. It would be much more human to try to get THEIR countries to change their mindset and do something for the masses over THERE. What we really need is a 20/25 yr moratorium on ALL migrations.

Our former long term New Mexico senator, Pete Domenici, was also the son of an illegal immigrant. His mother was without documentation as a child during WWII but did eventually become naturalized. His father was an American citizen.

That was then. This is now. Circumstances were very different in the 1930's and 40's than they are now. We didn't have tens of millions of illegals who did NOT want to adopt the uniquely American culture then. Even during Jimmy Carter and Reagan's terms of office, there were only three million illegals in the USA.

But each subsequent amnesty erected a bigger flashing neon sign over America: "ya'll come and if you lay low for just a little while, they'll let you stay." And our P.C. insanity of providing free food, housing, healthcare, and education for their kids as well as sympathizers who think they should not be required to learn English or respect our flag but should be allowed to fly their own national flag sure isn't helping discourage anybody from coming here.
