you read it , dips
Thank you --- now read your own link; you lose.

you read it, dipshit. From the cite.

ccording to an NFL spokesperson:

The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.

I did indeed read it, which is exactly what I refer to. And I read it a year ago when we did this then.

What does the word "should" mean on your planet?

And again --- that's the Operations Manual, outlining the format of the game presentation .... not a player contract.

Interesting though that said Operations Manual says "the national anthem must (as opposed to "should") be played before each game" ----- yet it apparently, from the snippet we're given, does not explain WHY. But then no one here can answer that particular question either.

The player contracts say that they will comply with the rules and regulations of the NFL. You ask why the anthem "must" be played? Are you that dumb? To honor America, its really quite simple. If you do not want to honor this country, LEAVE.

Number one, we just spelled that out. "Player contracts" do not equal "operations manual" besides which, I just called both Merriam and Webster and verified that the word "should" has not changed its meaning overnight. So it's more than a bit disingenuous that you claim "The player contracts say that they will comply with the rules and regulations of the NFL" and then quote not the rules and regs at all but the Operations Manual.

Number two, what in the wide wide world of blue fuck does it have to do with playing a football game?? Does it enable the ball to fly when kicked? Does it prevent injuries? Are home fans of the Denver Broncos suddenly unsure what country they're sitting in? And even if they are, how the fuck does it affect a football game? Will not the game be played exactly the same way with the same rules and the same scoring?

Why don't I have to wait and stand for the national anthem when I go to the grocery store? Or when I go to buy tires? Or a movie? It's got exactly the same degree of relevance there. Who's injecting this jingoisitic shit in there in the first place and why can't they just get on with what they all came there for -- a fucking football game?

When you go to the airport do you stop and surrender your time for every Hare Krishna Scientologist Alex Jones type who accosts you, or do you get on with what you came there for --- your flight?

As I just said, that question cannot be answered. It's really that simple. There is an answer, but not one that justifies it. And that answer is a large captive audience is being commandeered to sell Jingoism, a common form of Mob Mentality. If you want to honor Mob Mentality, go to North Korea. It's a "yes Master tell me what to do and allow me to assume the position, submit and obey" drone's paradise.

And if there's the slightest wisp of a shred of a shadow of a doubt that's precisely what it is ---- read your post's last sentence aloud.

the player contract says that they will abide by the rules and regulations of the league. Yes, it is part of their contract

Then post an actual contract. What you linked was an excerpt from the Operations Manual. All that tells us is how a team shall conduct a game in its own stadium.

And you still can't touch the question of what the fuck a national anthem is doing imposing on a football game.

I guess you just don't get it and never will. Please look up the word "tradition" that might give you a clue. I can remember in high school there was always a prayer before the games, prayer that no one was hurt. Tell me who that harmed.

Now you're on to a Straw Man fallacy; nowhere did I say someone was harmed. I asked why it's necessary. You can't answer that, so you change the question to something it isn't.

Peaceful protest is a hallmark of our freedom under the constitution. BUT, not when someone else is paying you to do a job. What would happen to you if you stopped work and protested during your job at the car wash?

My car wash is 75 cents, coin operated. Amazingly, when I put three quarters in it simply starts the wash; it doesn't require me to stand staring into space at some national anthem before I wash my car.

Why doesn't my car wash want to "honor this country"? Should it "LEAVE"?

Right near the car wash there's a gas station. It too does not require me to assume zombie position for a national anthem before pumping. Probably because it's a Shell station, but it doesn't require me to stand for a Dutch national anthem either. Amazing.

Then I go down the road. If I catch the red light I'll be required to stop and wait for cross traffic, yet, amazingly, not be required to stare blankly into space for a fucking national anthem.

Apparently I can wash my car, pump my gas, "honor" the red light and get to the grocery store all without infringement from some national anthem. All in the space of a few minutes.

Why doesn't my town want to "honor this country"? Perhaps I live in Uruguay. That must be it.

Why do we have the national anthem before a sporting event? Is that your basic question? Because that's what americans have always done. there is no other reason needed.

Why do they play the national anthems when medals are awarded to Olympic winners? Because they do. Why do they play taps at the funeral of a military veteran? WTF is wrong with you?

Your questions are not only stupid, they are ignorant.

If you want to sit during the anthem when you are in the audience, fine, go for it. But if you are being paid to play a game and to follow the rules and regulations of the league, then you stand, remove your hat, and place your hand over your heart.

Does not follow.

Not only is "because we've always done it emphatically NOT a reason for doing anything --- it's not even true anyway. That was inserted in there at some point. You know damn well no national anthem of anywhere is needed to play a football (baseball, basketball, fill in the blank) game any more than it's needed to wash my car or go to a freaking concert.

This is not about why americans honor their country, its about assholes like you trying to destroy it. Screw you and the horse you rode in on.

Oh fucking BULLSHIT. You have no answer to the original question, and you'd need one to make an accusation like that. Why don't you tell the class why you're not only enslaved to Mob Mentality but also believe everyone else must also be, else they have to "LEAVE".

And screw YOU and your disingenuous horseshit. A Kansas City Chiefs vs Indianapolis football game is in no way "the Olympics". There's no question about what country you're in and no question about which country's team will win or lose. It's completely irrelevant, it's opportunistic jingo BULLSHIT.

As myriad posters/voices have already agreed, it's a fucking football game, let it BE a fucking football game and quit injecting politics into it.

I agree with your last sentence completely, Tell the kneelers.

as to your basic question, why is the anthem necessary at a sporting event? It isn't necessary, but we do it because we love this country and all it stands for. Question for you, do you rail at Canadians and brits for playing their anthems before sporting events? or is your railing limited to the country that allows you to exist?

as to your basic question, why is the anthem necessary at a sporting event? It isn't necessary, but we do it because we love this country and all it stands for.

uh HUH. Then why don't we do it at the gas station? The grocery store? The library? A visit to a national park? A concert? A play? A movie? A restaurant? A freaking Bingo game? How is it we can do all these everyday things and somehow survive them without going full Megajingo, yet suddenly enter a sporting event -- and it has to be a YUGE sporting event with five figures of asses in the seats, not a bowling alley --- out come the puppetteers and we're all supposed to be dancing marionettes?

What's the difference?

You STILL can't answer that. How is it I can go through the car wash without first staring obediently into space while the national jingo song plays? Is washing one's car "anti-American"? Can I get around that by having a foreigner wash my car?

And we don't even need to get into the question of Mandatory Zombie Exercise before a baseball game, immediately after which we watch a game played by Cubans, Venezuelans, Dominicans, Panamanians, Japanese, Koreans, Canadians, Mexicans, Australians, Chinese, Curaçaoans, Brazilians, Germans, Russians, South Africans and Colombians, yet we're not playing their national anthems. Are we.

Now, begin playing the national anthems of everybody actually on the field to play the game, and you'll begin to have a basis. But that's not happening, is it.

"Tell the kneelers" indeed. Let's blame the reaction to the intrusion while completely giving a pass to the intrusion itself. When "we" do it it's OK because it's 'honoring the country' or some shit. When "they" react to it it's "thug culture". Posta please.

Question for you, do you rail at Canadians and brits for playing their anthems before sporting events? or is your railing limited to the country that allows you to exist?

I don't know that they do do if it's not the Olympics, the only setting where an NA would have a function. Face it, none of us who hadn't actually been to a recent NFL game even knew the NFL did it until this fake story came up, seeing as how it's not even on TV. So now the Fake Outrage Theater begins on command, just like the Fake Patriotism Theater did. All you need is some authority figure to tell you what to do and you can't grovel lowly enough. That about it?

My God some snowflakes just have to make a mountain out of a tiny tiny teeny molehill. Letting a couple of kneelers get you all got and bothered. Ever heard of ignore? I frankly could care less what anybody else does while I am standing. This over the top stuff from both sides is nauseating. Give it a rest.

Interesting. So you only take positions on issues that you're hot and bothered by. That's an odd standard. I would hardly be able to talk about anything if I used your standard

The idea of a protest is to piss people off, hillbilly. It's funny how you get all upset that they are getting the reaction they tried to get.

I'm just tired of politics being permeated everywhere all the time. Leftists are out of control. I dumped a Michigan Wolverine podcast I used to listen to because they started railing on Fox News. I was like WTF, I want football, not politics. Most sports podcasts stay out of politics for a reason. They gain nothing but piss off their customers. Goodell sucks. And he's a pathetic leftist. That's why this drags on.

But here's the 411. Customers have a right to tell businesses like the NFL we patron when we don't like the service. I don't give a fuck if you like that or not, corporation lackey

Aha. So you're in the habit of wasting people's time posting on topics you really don't give a shit about.

This may come as news but --- it shows.

So you don't know what "hot and bothered" means?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Pogo: You're either "hot and bothered" or you "don't give a shit." Those are the choices.

OMG you're stupid. No, those aren't my only choices, hillbilly

The idea of a protest is to piss people off, hillbilly. It's funny how you get all upset that they are getting the reaction they tried to get.

When some orange demagogue stands before his lemmings (the same lemmings he tried as often as he could to puppetteer into "beating the crap out of 'em") and tries to rally them to get a league he tried (and FAILED) to put out of business to "fire the sumbitches" if they don't fall into line like good obsequious robots, damn straight those players, and those owners and those fans, are going to defy that shit. That's just basic human rights. It's called not being intimidated. It's called having stones. It's called not just bending over because orange demagogue says so, because fuck him and fuck that shit.

That must be bizzare to a lockstep robot confined to the single script line "Yes Master I hear and obey". But that's how life works on this planet, like it or lump it.

I'm just tired of politics being permeated everywhere all the time.

Then you should be writing your incessant diarrhea of strongly worded letters to the NFL taking them to task for injecting jingoism into a fucking football game in the first place, without which NONE of this would have been necessary or even possible. Shouldn't you.

So you think saying you appreciate the country and the people who defend us is "politics?" That's sick, even for you, America hater.

I thought hillbillies were patriotic

Translation: "No I won't be calling out the NFL for starting this shit because I do what I'm told".

How compliant of you.

LOL, the fake news editor shows again that he doesn't know how to use quote marks. And what the hell are you talking about? It's pathetic that you think saying you appreciate the troops and the police who protect us is being political. You're a sick fuck, hillbilly

It's sure as shit being obsequious when you just puppet yourself on command, innit.

We should just call you Ben Dover. :gay:

The irony recurs as a klown wants to bring up what is a perfect usage of quotation marks, thereby bringing attention to his (her, its) inability to negotiate the simple period.

The question marks in your usage added nothing to the meaning. If you remove them, it means exactly the same thing.

And you still don't understand the difference between writing a document and a presentation. You prove over and over how truthful you were when you claimed you edited news to verify that it was fake

YES! THERE IS A GOD!
Is Colin Kaepernick on the Cover of Time Magazine as the 2018 ‘Person of the Year?’
An image purportedly showing Colin Kaepernick as the "Person of the Year" on the cover of Time Magazine is a hoax.

If you are a customer, you can complain regardless of whether you "dodged" the draft or not.

This is America.

Further, President Trump never dodged the draft at all. He was barred from military service because of physical disability. No more a draft dodger than Hawking or Krauthammer, just another brave American with a disability.

For God's same I cannot believe that some weak kneed folk let a bunch of immature kneelers get them all in a tizzy. Toughen up and ignore. Stand like most do and ignore them. Emphasis week kneed. Don't make an issue out of every little thing. Smarten up.
